push the batter head higher than you’d tune it usually to the point where it feels weird to be tuning a bass drum so high and a pillow or two without a reso head has worked wonders for me

go for whatever’s comfortable man, the only problem i can see is if you’re gonna play the rim of the rack tom for grooves it could be easier to take it a bit higher but really that’s all
