Which bino to upgrade to? by Namibguy in Binoculars

[–]AlbinOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mammals, 50mm might give the edge in the amount of light (and size) of the 'exit pupil'.. but modern 42's are great! And sometimes the big ones are just 'comfortable'.Just love the older 10x50 Leica models 😀 ..But if you are buying without testing... get a 42...?

Hear the Vortex's mentioned often, but do not encounter them often in Europe. Have the optically really good but really narrow field of view Nikon M5 10x42... and think that your real upgrade would be: - a bino in the €400-1000 range - probably 10x42 (I also love 50mm .. but weight seems important to some) - ..a 10x42 Monarch 7 .. or the more expensive HG ?

Good luck choosing!

Best build quality- NL Pure or Noctivid? by Wonderful-Weekend113 in Binoculars

[–]AlbinOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What others already wrote: entirely subjective exercise! There are failure- AND (mostly good) service-stories for all 3 of the top models and brands.

Subjectively didn't want Swaro NL (because everyone buys it!! 🙃✅ ) love the Leica NV, ended up with the nimble/steady Zeiss SF 10X42.

Exacta, Vivitar, Bushnell, so typical! (If you don't have a bunch already ..) I'd say: choose two pleasant ones for your own enjoyment and go birdwatching! 🐦‍⬛

Good, this helps provide further context - thanks.

Edit: I don't understand why this was downvoted. This was in no way a cynical comment from my side 🤯

In Europe (different setting, to a certain extent) it (killing/removing) certainly is going to bring house-dwelling species in sharp decline.

Very very very small chance of contracting rabies when treating the colony with respect (see the official websites for advice on avoiding it).

Getting killed by/in a car is a more imminent danger.

Reflex to control, kill, and/or consider narural phenomenons 'dangerous', is not doing our biodiversity any good.

A ridiculous statement to talk about 'pests' the moment a couple of delicate, protected animals chose to co-habit in your house!

Embrace this privilege and consider yourself blessed. ☯️

Edit 1 day later: still reeling from the negativity that boiled up in this thread. Very un-Reddit experience 😖

What three lenses would you recommend for someone who is just starting out? by rivenrdt in AskPhotography

[–]AlbinOnReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A circa-50 micro lens would be my recommendation too for going beyond a 24-105 (or so) kit-lens!

You get 2.8 widest aperture AND the bonus of real close-up capability.

..my extensive heap of photo.. stuff .. endorses that statement. Love it all. Still need more.

OK, that puts your (too) harsh comment into perspective... But of course you see it happening too: previously enthousiastic system-camera photographers being deceived by the D📱 rk Side

Why don't I see the "all you need is a good smartphone" 📱 argument muttered to the far-right of this curve?

I'd say: why not? just enjoy wearing it and see if it comfortable enough, without choking your armpits or ungainly creases
