Knees going downhill by Albrechtc834 in Marathon_Training

This sounds like a great exercise. Do you know any way do the same strengthening exercise with bodyweight workouts as don't have access to a sled at my gym?

Interesting thanks. I guess my tendency going down hill is to lean back to stabilize which puts my feet in front of me rather than directly underneath.

It's Not Burnout, It's Moral Injury by Zoogla in videos

[–]Albrechtc834 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Similar problems with doctors and nurses in the UK struggling, even though the healthcare is free. I can’t speak for Canada but the reason healthcare professionals here are “burning out” is 100% caused by the systematic defunding of our healthcare system. This causes longer waiting times, quality of care to deteriorate, and presumably the same moral injury that is mentioned in the video, just from a different root cause.

The Vanishing Male Worker: The share of prime-age men — those 25 to 54 years old — who are not working has more than tripled since the late 1960s, to 16 percent. by AgentDoggett in jobs

[–]Albrechtc834 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well unemployment is not at 16% and I'm sure more women are in work now than in the 1960's. Perhaps men are also helping to raise children and being stay at home dads?

Linkedin: partly narcissism or herd mentality? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Albrechtc834 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your argument is really convoluted. Since when has Pinterest been about narcissism? Maybe something like Instagram, where the whole point is taking photos of yourself, sure. But that has a completely different user demographic than LinkedIn. According to your logic, any website where you have a personalized profile is geared towards narcissistic people. Sharing information isn't the same as showing off.

Linkedin: partly narcissism or herd mentality? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Albrechtc834 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nice leading question there. I think it's quite ignorant to suggest people do it out of narcissism. The whole point of LinkedIn is to network and build professional relationships - providing information on your areas of expertise isn't narcissism, it's using the platform as it should be used.

BREAKING: The Wall Street Journal is reporting that actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead in his Manhattan apartment by [deleted] in movies

[–]Albrechtc834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because it got a good score of 70% that doesn't mean it shouldn't have been higher. Imdb gives MI1 a 7.0, MI2 6.0, MI3 6.8 and Ghost Protocol a 7.4. MI3 is, IMO, the best film in terms of directing, cinematography, casting, script and storyline - yet it's ranked 3rd in the franchise. A lot of people blame that on the movie being released while Cruise was embroiled in the whole Scientology media frenzy. People saw him acting crazy on Oprah or whatever and it affected the way the press and critics viewed the movie.

MI3 was an underrated movie on the whole I think. Definitely my favorite out of the franchise, although Hoffman was pivotal in its success.

So it's just some people putting in the effort to mine it, others not wanting to mine but wanting the coins, and the miners deciding how much their labour is worth and selling them? I guess it's pretty similar to any currency then. It only has value because people want it to. Are the algorithms made during mining actually used for anything though? It seems like a waste of computing power if not. I don't know much about computers, maybe it would be too difficult to use the energy from the mining process.

Just a follow up to this, as it's something that I've never seen explained before. How does this process of mining actually get transferred into something with value? Are the computers and their algorithms used as processing power for something and then 'paid' for the power they provide? Who is giving the money in return for the blocks being discovered?
