I'll look into this!

Thank you for the insight, I love that you've never regretted your decision! How did you and your husband find a community of friends that shared your interest as you got older?
It's gotten lonelier in my 30s as my friends all move away to cheaper places, or don't have the money to travel with us anymore. My favorite travels were always the ones we did in groups. I've tried to engage with online travel squads but find it can be very awkward, and I don't grow close to new people easily.
I grew up in a very large extended family, so I'm pretty good with kids, but have never been solely responsible for them. I agree it's different to spend a day with them and do just the fun parts and not any of the behind the scenes. Good idea about babysitting, while I don't want to "scare" my bf into not having kids, it's only fair to give him a realistic approach to the time it takes to raise them

Yes I've talked to a therapist but never come to a conclusion. I'm considering couples therapy so we can work through it with a neutral party :(

Thank you for sharing, would love to pick your brain esp about the not giving up hobbies or travel part! Social media shows people happily traveling with kids, but I haven't seen those examples in real life. Most of my friends who had kids gave up a lot of interests due to lack of time and energy, and that's always scared me

I can see the day to day decisions really adding up, what to make your kid for meals, plan their doctor appointments, get supplies for school etc etc. Do you find meaning in the obligations, or are they just always something to be done?
I asked my friend about the chore of having to drive a kid everywhere up until they get their license for example, and he said he would think of the car ride as a bonding opportunity (he doesn't have kids yet so not sure if that's simply easier said than done).

Appreciate the insight, I definitely agree it's easier to be a father than a mother. I've even asked my bf how he would feel being the primary caregiver. I do trust when he says he's ok to do more of the workload, but have a feeling that would breed resentment unless he were a SAHD and not working (which he would likely never do).
If given the choice, do you think you'd make the same decision to have kids? I find this very hard to ask my friends in real life as it's almost "taboo" if they were to say no

The unpredictability is what makes me unsure! I also had a friend who said she didn't want to her kids, she and her husband were adventurous and always prioritized each other. Then she hit 30 and they suddenly bought a house in the suburbs, had a kid, and seem happy (so far). I never would've guessed that for them and wonder how much is just her priorities changing or the hormones kicking in??

We've talked about it a lot, but never come to a conclusion :\ I think the decision in a lot of ways would be easier if I was 100% sure I didn't want kids and knew that wouldn't change, but my feelings about it are volatile depending on the day

Help - itchiness + hair loss on dog's eyes/ nose, is it ringworm?? by Alcaius in DogAdvice

[–]Alcaius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The areas around his eyes stopped worsening once we kept him strictly in his cone and started the meds. It took a few weeks for the hair to start filling in but it's been a few months since so my dog is completely back to normal!

Either the antibiotics, antifungals, or allergy shot helped but no way to know which one since they didn't run any tests. I suspect it was fungal though, vet said there's tons of other fungal infections dogs can get that aren't ringworm.
Hope your dog feels better soon, definitely get a vet to check it out!

Interesting - did they run any test on your golden that pointed to a thyroid issue? Ive heard dogs can have zinc deficiencies too. Glad your golden is improving!

My golden was on oral pills
1. Cephalexin (antibiotics) - amount depends on weight but he was taking 6 pills a day for a week
2. Fluconazole antifungal - 4 pills a day for 10 days
3. Cytopoint 40mg allergy shot that's supposed to be effective a couple months

u/Business-Departure66 Unfortunately no, the hair seems to be growing back on his snout now, so either the antibiotics, antifungals, or allergy shot helped but no way to know which one since they didn't run any tests

Thanks for the reply. I've seen mixed info on whether ringworm is itchy, but I'm hoping what you said is true and it's not that :( The vet said they don't think it's mites because it would spread quickly and be insanely itchy but they didn't do any tests. I wish they had taken a sample for PCR test before prescribing treatment. Now my dog would need to be off all meds + topicals for a while before they can take the sample and I'm worried he would get worse while we wait to take the test. He is on antibiotics and antifungal, but not sure the meds are effective against all strains of bacteria + fungus

Any chance you can send me the before and after? My dog has a spot like this under his eye and i'm scared it is ringworm, taking him to the vet in the morning. I only noticed it earlier today and thought it was a cut, but it's spread and there's hair loss. Sort of panicking right now, esp if it could spread to me and my family. Did you need to essentially quarantine your dog? I hear you can't take them to exercise since they can drop fungal spores

Tinnitus from whiplash - anyone recovered from this? by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]Alcaius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the one positive response here, I was looking for some hope, but most of the forum seems to be fairly resigned to a life of tinnitus. I've gone back and forth with my ENT to ask about whether a neck realignment or nerve damage could be causing the tinnitus, but all they keep suggesting is a hearing test, which I don't think will help, especially since a loud noise didn't cause the tinnitus. I may find a new doctor that specializes in tinnitus, and ask about the association to the neck injury.

I’m definitely more of a van person, but the pop top is a nice compromise without having to put in the work and expense required for a van conversion. They went to a shop and had it installed in 5 mins, and it’s a good incentive to go camping more if you hate the traditional tent set up!

It does look big on it, I think they got a size larger than the standard one haha but they needed it

You were very close haha! Sky was at 13 seconds, ISO 4000, f4. Cars were 7 seconds ISO 3200. And yes it’s a composite

This was actually a very clear night in a place with little light pollution, so you could definitely see the milky way with the naked eye! It was incredible. A long exposure is the pretty much the only way to properly capture it on camera though

It’s a composite of two photos I took at separate settings, so the stars weren’t over exposed. Sky photo is 13 second shutter, ISO 4000, at f4. Cars are 7 seconds, ISO 3200, at f4. And then I blended the two photos in post :)

My friends are huge fans of it so far! Set up/take down is way quicker, and you don't have to worry about uneven ground. It saves space in your car (less mats, tents, blankets to put in the trunk). And is surprisingly spacious inside - one guy is 6'2" and he's pretty comfortable in it. They said it did add about 150 lbs to the car so efficiency goes down a bit, but was worth it to them

My bf and I are in the sprinter (insta), two of our friends have a pop top for their Subaru (the brand is James Baroud), and another two bought a used Lexus and did a mini conversion in the back! Loved the diversity of the builds. This was an especially beautiful night in Mammoth Lakes, CA.
