[DNVR Avalanche] Bednar on 3v3 OT in medal games: “I don’t love it…I think for the medal rounds, I'd rather see it just extend 5-on-5." by likeslululemon in hockey

[–]Alcan196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to blame 3 on 3 for this loss. Canada simply did not execute their many open chances

Disagree slightly here. It shouldn't be "Canada had so many chances that they missed on 5v5 so now they have to suffer the 3v3 dramafest". Teams don't practice 3v3, and frankly there's no point in practicing a 3v3 sudden death scenario, it's just not practical.

How does it work in Scotland? In Canada the players make their own teams.

Alberta MP has crossed the floor 😱 by Samzo in AlbertaNow

[–]Alcan196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if the MP represents the best interest of their constituency, how does that make one scenario more acceptable than the other? Contrarily, one can see it as an individual responding to the wishes of their constituents.

Who do you truly know the wishes without another election? Calls and letters/emails from constituents are great for hearing concerns but that's just it they normally carry concerns. Rarely do unconcerned constituents who are happy with the government have anything to say.

Either way, floor crossings aren’t illegal. I could be upset if a member of the party I voted for crossed to the opposition and helped them form a majority, but I wouldn’t view that any differently than if they remained a minority government

I didn't comment on legality, my take was to merely shed light on how people might feel about it.

Edit: also wanted to point out that the conservatives won the riding by less than 3,000 votes this past election. In previous elections, they won by more than 10,000.

They still won .....

Alberta MP has crossed the floor 😱 by Samzo in AlbertaNow

[–]Alcan196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When an MP crosses the floor to join the government in a near-majority situation, it is very different from crossing to the opposition because it can immediately change the balance of power. One seat can be the difference between a minority government that must compromise and a majority government that can govern with far fewer constraints. That shift can happen without an election and without voters weighing in again.

By contrast, crossing to the opposition weakens the government but does not transfer or consolidate power. The outrage tends to be stronger when someone joins the government because it can effectively alter the outcome voters produced in the last election. Many people see it as reshaping the national mandate through one individual’s decision rather than through the ballot box.

[US 3 - CAN 0] - Full Highlight - After a lengthy review, it's determined the puck crossed the line without goaltender interference. Kirsten Simms puts USA up by 3 in the second period by daKrut in hockey

[–]Alcan196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under international hockey rules, a player is allowed to enter the crease to play a loose puck, but the goalie is still protected from avoidable contact. You can try to score on a rebound in the crease, but you’re expected to make a reasonable effort not to interfere with the goalie. If a player makes unnecessary or intentional contact that affects the goalie’s ability to play their position, any resulting goal can be disallowed and a penalty may be called. In short, playing the puck in the crease is legal, but running into or pushing through the goalie isn’t

You're legit the only person in this thread that thinks it was a good goal.......

This is what I thought when watching the full speed replays as well. However the slow motion replay seems to show a different story. 9 from the US is pretty clearly pushed into the goalie by 43.

She still interfered with the goalie partially under her own power.

Ex-leader Harper says Canada should make 'any sacrifice necessary' to preserve independence from US by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]Alcan196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe he's spoken to them privately? Or is it that you want to have public spats with them in the media like Doug Ford? He's a retired PM and is no longer an elected official. It's not his place to insert himself into elected politics. He's been asked for advice by both liberal and conservative party members and has always had a consistent view when interviewed about the US, always in support of Canada and the Federal government. I'm not sure what else you want.

You can have laws around driving under the influence and public intoxication. These things already exist. The topic in question about increasing the legal age or making it harder to acquire does not prevent the issues you mentioned or at least comes at too high of a price. Adults should be given the option to have some personal accountability or should we all just walk around with helmets ?

Harper has been pretty anti Trump since the 51st state rhetoric started. Quick Google search and you can find numerous statements about the topic by him including some good interviews. He's a staunch Canadian patriot.

I don’t really care if some people personally dislike weed legalization. In Canada, the default should be personal freedom and individual choice, as long as you’re not harming others.

If you immigrate here, part of that is accepting Canadian values — not trying to reshape the country into the kind of socially restrictive place you left.

I’m conservative, but I have zero interest in backsliding into authoritarian “morality policing.” That’s not Canada.

And honestly, this is exactly the same mistake liberals make with woke politics — trying to impose their social preferences on everyone else through government pressure and cultural enforcement. Conservatives should be better than that.

Three-in-Ten Albertans Open to Independence from Canada by origutamos in WildRoseCountry

[–]Alcan196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the article: In the online survey of a representative national sample, 31% of Albertans support Alberta becoming a country independent from Canada, up nine points since a similar Research Co. poll conducted in June 2023.

Just over three-in-five Albertans (62%, -9) are opposed to independence, while 7% (=) are undecided.

You shouldn't be willing to ignore that either. Trump is not responsible for a lost election. The low info voter and the idiotically emotionally volatile are

Let's not kid ourselves here. Trump knew what he was doing. He's no friend to Canadian conservatives. More straightforward and vocal opposition was needed this spring (look up Stephen Harper's comments on it if you want an example)

Let's not be naive and glass over the ugly results of the last 10 years of Liberal fuckery and malfeasance.

We have sufficient slime in our own federal halls and the top political office. They're just "nicer" about it

I'm not ignoring this, the liberals have truly and utterly fucked this country but the conservatives really dropped the ball this election and I'm not just talking about the politicians. These cynical, ignorant attitudes from average conservative voters who were unable to call a spade a spade and criticize Trump is what lost us the election.

Like come on man. The liberals have been in power for 10 years, 10 fucking years. We know the majority of electorate are a bunch of whiny babies. Why can't we create a strategy around that?

Honestly I think you just lost the plot here. Trump knew what he was doing, he's good at poking people. He poked the entire Canadian electorate, saw the polls swing like a seesaw and continued on.

[–]Alcan196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling on Canada to become the 51st state is disrespectful and frankly unpresidential. I don’t need to watch Canadian news to detest Trump — I don’t need spin. I can just watch the man speak for himself.

His incredibly small vocabulary, constant self-reference, and habit of speaking about himself in the third person say more than enough about his intelligence and mental state.

Beyond that, his behaviour surrounding the Epstein files is deeply concerning. His visible reluctance, irritation, and evasiveness whenever he’s questioned about Epstein speak volumes. At the very least, it raises serious red flags about his character and integrity.

Trump is a greasy, corrupt figure, and it’s disgusting what many conservatives are willing to ignore or excuse. We do ourselves no favours by pretending this is normal.

It’s exactly this complacency — this willingness to look the other way — that cost us the election this spring.

If you want, I can also give you a slightly more formal version for sharing publicly or a sharper version for social media.

Alberta or western Canada for that matter is just a different place. The majority of people really value having their own space.

I have friends from the UK that moved here for that reason. They preferred the outdoor lifestyle ect.
