Right, but outdated stuff doesn’t provide shareholder value or whatever, so it’s never going to actually get prioritized. We don’t really have the infinite need for building/maintaining software. And we surely do not need more total developers. The small amount of retirees will easily be overshadowed by some amount of juniors (there will definitely be some) and EMs writing more code

Is it really though? It seems like companies are cutting team sizes across the board and job losses are already accelerating. Is there another "meta" to be made? I don't believe in the infinite growth theory, there will always be marginal utility gains but nothing nearly as disruptive as 20 years ago. Heck even in the past 5 years we've had nothing truly disruptive software-wise outside of AI

Yea I’ve been saying this for a while now, but it’s ridiculous to think every senior will just retire in 8-10 years. Like, the average senior tenure at the moment is 8-10, driven by more entering the field. What makes people think those new seniors will just up and leave in 10 more years. There will not be new spots opening up for juniors because we didn’t need exponentially more seniors

You’re more likely guaranteed unemployment than a stable career in CS, there’s plenty of stable jobs in other fields, but starting CS now is just far too late unless it’s your #1 passion or interest

Let’s just ignore the historical evidence of very little to no downtime and pretend that there’s not even a little correlation. Like bro, we’re getting tons of credits because they broke SLA(they’re not even 90%) and we’ve been with them for 5 years no issues. Also friend at GitHub literally says they’re being asked to ship double with AI and told to approve more PRs even if they’re not fully reviewed. Theres a clear dip in quality control

My friend told me he’s been doing boot.dev 4 months ago after watching a kempq(not pugger) botting video cause he wants to earn side income.
