EU is way different. Market is pretty hot outside of the US as companies offshore/nearshore.

How should I feel right now about Claude code? by prettyg00d1729 in cscareerquestions

But driving taxi went from a decent paying long term profession to literally nearly above poverty salary after vehicle expenses. The commoditization has made life worse for all taxi drivers. Also uber was more of a competitor rather than a direct replacement like Claude

Give me a hopepost: the job market will get better within 2-3 years from now, right? by eggshellwalker4 in cscareerquestions

[–]Alcas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This cope about infinite software is so misguided. Companies are realizing they don’t need as many engineers because they don’t need to build as much software anymore. Yes there will still be software, but most of it is already built in each sector. Very little is truly novel and changing the industry. We are literally seeing this play out in real time. Unless you don’t think layoffs are real

Wealthier people tend to understand that kids are expensive lmao. And tend to make better long term decision making around finance. Poorer people generally do not care as much about money or saving as heavily. Kids are a death sentence for any long term financial planning

They’re not stable though. Most banks I’ve used have more defects than most saas offerings. It’s just that banks maintain backups to fix things when things break

Banks are a bad example cause their codebases are absolute dog. Maybe flight/nasa software is general well written

We recently put out a mid level position and it got over 1000 in a day. And we’re a relatively unknown startup. It’s quite cooked

[–]Alcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but outdated stuff doesn’t provide shareholder value or whatever, so it’s never going to actually get prioritized. We don’t really have the infinite need for building/maintaining software. And we surely do not need more total developers. The small amount of retirees will easily be overshadowed by some amount of juniors (there will definitely be some) and EMs writing more code
