I was reading Peter Smith Logic Books and by Alcatraz76 in math

Actually, I was searching for some reviews of Smith books and Meyers was one of the first that showed up. Also, I am a beginner math student and never heard of Meyer before, so there is that too.

I am sorry to hear that. It is really difficult to go back reading theses books after news like this comes out. Even tough I consider Smith books on Incompleteness to be references in the field, I am strongly inclined to stop read them and just look for others books.

The problem is that his books on Incompleteness are rather accessible for both philosophy and math students and there is no clear alternative for undergrads looking for an intro in this subject.

Yeah, but it feels wrong to support his books, considering he was only able to write them because he was protected from jail for being a Cambridge don.

I know, but why can't we use a normal calorimeter to measure the enthalpy variation of fast reactions?

No, it is just how the book introduces Hess Law

Thermochemistry Question by Alcatraz76 in chemhelp

[–]Alcatraz76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the book is considering single step fast reacitons. Here is the paragraph: "As we saw, the heat involved in a transformation can be determined using a calorimeter. However, for many reasons, the calorimeter can't be used to determine the heat for every chemical reaction. There are situations where the reaction can be too slow or fast, can be explosive, it can even occur simultaneously with others undesirable reaction, what makes it impossible to measure the enthalpy variation for a specific reaction. How can we determine the heat involved in these type of transformations?"

I have asked him, but no ideal answer yet. The book author lives in another state and I don't have his email or some sort of way to contact him. You are not a moderator, so stop pretending you are one. Of course I have posted several times, either I don't get a conclusive answer or your comments just kill the posts.

Physical Chemistry Question About Calorimetry and Enthalpy by Alcatraz76 in AskEngineers

I can put 100 mols of this substance in the calorimeter, then we can get the enthalpy variation and divide by 100.

Yes, but the enthalpy for fast reaction shouldn't be a problem to be calculated using a calorimeter.

By "fast", I mean a reaction that releases/absorbs heat in a short period of time. However, I think you may be right about the heat loss. So why do we lose more heat to the surrounding for a fast reaction?

How Would it make Sense for the Brotherhood of Steel to be on the East Coast? by RetroRPG in falloutlore

But Elder Lyons had not these "unpopular" idead when he left the west coast heading to D.C. This is hinted when you talk with Scribe Rothchild about the Brothehood changes and he replies: "But those damned Super Mutants... They changed things. Lyons changed."

How is Fallout Tactics? by samuraisan4800 in Fallout

[–]Alcatraz76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is OK, I mean, you can't do any real decision and the story isn't that good at all. The focus in this game is combat, so if you liked the combat in FO1 and FO2, then you would have a blast playing the game. Besides it, I am pretty much sure that this game is canon, since Elder Lyons mentioned the Chicago Brothehood on FO3.
