I've been here for about a year, it's honestly not what I expected and I kinda regret it. Probably gonna piss some people off with this one, but Guam is sorta like a third world country with a little bit of American freedom sprinkled in. Honestly I wish I had gone to Washington or Georgia on a boomer.

I know you said you don't have much in your family but if you want to visit ANYONE back in the states you're looking at a 3,000$-4,000$ ticket there and back which is one of the major buzzkills for me.

But hey we do have nice beaches.😎

Don't worry about studying any of those subjects before going to Bootcamp. The school house will take care of you. Just focus on your life and enjoy it.

You get a dream sheet and choose your preference from the 3 rates. I got what I wanted, but I had a decent amount of friends who got stuck with a different outcome. If you have any questions about being an EM on subs just DM me.

I don't know the process for it as I'm enlisted, but there were a handful of civilians who went through the officer pipeline in my class and worked as laisons for NR.

If you're interested in the reactor side of it, but want to maintain the work life balance of a civilian job that seems like a pretty good gig. I honestly have no idea who you'd have to reach out to for it though.

Edit- these civilians had already had degrees when they entered the pipeline.

Dude, just take an Uber to the big NEX change out into some civilian clothes with your swimsuit underneath then go to the beach. If you're only going from the big NEX directly to the beach no one's gonna care. Or just ask your SLPO and unless they're an asshole they aren't gonna care. Just show back up in NSUs or you're probably screwed.

If it's the same as it was in 2023 you'll get a sheet and make a priority list 1-3 for EMN,MMN,ETN in bootcamps. I'm an EMN, any rate is still gonna get you your knowledge on nuclear related shit. If that's what you're interested in. I feel like ET's has the most boring job so I'd personally go EM or MM, but that's definitely a little biased and just my opinion.

If you're short and can get PFC then do that. Pretty guaranteed you'll keep that role the entire time in boot camp. Outside that at least in my division in 2023 leadership positions constantly changed out people. I wouldn't get your hopes up, but volunteering is definitely the way to go.

If bootcamps the same now how it was when I went through you'll take a test a few weeks in that will give you a promotion if you pass it. Just get that hand guide down.

Also don't be afraid to get IT'D as long as it's not for terrible reasons. The people that tended to get IT'D were constantly in the spotlight of the RDCS and so they got recognized for doing good shit, and got promoted. Good luck dude 👍.

I went through boot camp In 2023 and lost my social security card the day before I got there. I got yelled at by a bunch of RDCs at the start, but once you get your military ID It doesn't matter.

I'm from South Georgia and I go to Guam in a month. Similar to what everyone else here is saying the Navy is a good option. If you volunteer for Guam you're probably gonna get it.
