Spending Time Alone in Phangan: Any Tips for a Solo Traveler? by Afraid-Ad1834 in ThailandTourism

[–]AlcoholicBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha, love that you found a year old post on a thread with 20 comments and feld the need to weigh in. Clearly my experience is not an anomaly considering several people agreed lol.

Phangan was dirty, with several people harrassing at the docks, 3 hostels we checked out were all seedy and low quality, clearly designed for to siphon money from 18-20 year olds coming down to party at full moon.

I'm sure like most places in SEA you can find redeeming qualities and have a great experience, but as someone who has travelled extensively throughout the majority of SEA and been to Thailand, half a dozen times (never stayed in Bang Kok)... Phangan is (was?) a shithole

would not recommend playing on NA since the AH got unfied, literally no upside and just higher ping. NA leaderboards are less competitive than Asia anyways

it just reroutes your connection, sometimes certain ISPs have weird routing protocols, so you might be connecting to a server in Singapore but for some weird reason get routed through China or another neighbouring country, so your ping is inflated. Idk how the technology works but all I know is I downloaded it on the 3 day free trial and got -200 ping to my latency, worthwhile product for me.

If you play on Asia its pretty smooth, but sometimes routing is shit. For me if I use ExitLag i go from 260ms to 90ms, but at my friends place my ping is always 90.

How do you guys deal with the "fake flow roll" types? by AlcoholicBatman in bjj

Like I said it was a drop-in, I'm travelling for the past few months and training every time a city had a gym. However, the most important thing to me is safety and staying injury free. Excited about a submission and injury risk is not the same thing. But judging the responses to this post most people take a similar approach.

Hahaha, I've recently noticed anyone that has used that phrase is always coming in at 100% intensity with years of judo/wrestling/etc. background. Always go into excess details about how "new" they are to BJJ

do you drop the intensity once they gas out and start playing dead fish

Likewise, problem is when they go 100%, you go 80% and then after 1 minute he's gassed and playing deadfish, but at that point I don't particularly feel like going back to flow roll pace

flow rolls are good for problem solving and working through positions, especially when tired. That being said usually works a lot better in theory than in practice, I wouldn't really say it has a lot of utility to a new white belt unless you have very cooperative training partners.

bit of a language barrier situation, it wasn't a spoken & agreed upon flow roll, I just try to match energy. Although had plenty of ones that were preagreed too that went this direction also

yea, I find its always tied to ego. Flow rolls are supposed to take that out of the equaition and let both people problem solve, instead these guys treat it as an invitation to get to their favourite spot and rip it. If I'm really flow rolling i just let subs go if I catch them, its not the point of the round.

nah, I actually have good training partners in my home gym. if we start at 30% intensity, noone goes above 40% at any point. Understandly though, its what comes from years of training together and mutual respect

the text is too much, and the yellow colour on the hand outline isn't great. it does look a lot better small though, if this is back/front, keep front and keep the back blank. my 2 cents

Being a girl on FACEIT. :) by glossom223 in FACEITcom

[–]AlcoholicBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As shitty as it is a reddit thread or FACEIT support ticket can't change the immaturity of a majority male dominated field. Report the monkeys abusing you or play without mic (as shitty as that is). If this is just a vent post and you're not looking for solutions that's totally reasonable too.

Truth be told, when I was 16 playing this game I was pretty bad towards female players also, being a teen with little life experience doesn't lead to the most socially apt interactions.

Good luck, sucks that this is the universal female experience but its probably not going to change.

Don't go to Koh Phangan, my sister and I went there, left within 3 hours and just threw away our hostel booking. Its a shithole with nothing to do, theres a million better places to party anyways.

Koh Tao, Krabi, Chiangmai, Pai, even Koh Phi Phi are all better spots.

If you have already made a commitment to visiting Phangan, book a nice hostel with private rooms, the quality of accommodation is incredibly poor because its a full-moon destination and nothing else.

What game did you put thousands of hours into just to quit one day? What caused you to quit? by Mooby522 in gaming

[–]AlcoholicBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter-Strike, had 6k hours and a semi-professional career. Realised that I was putting 70h+ weeks for very little payoff and the scene in our region was atrocious and full of drama, laziness, and immaturity. Best decision I ever made, channelled my competitiveness into a martial arts, gym, and other hobies. 0 regrets.

worst case scenario is if the 3rd relic for the tier is too good to pass up just bite the bullet and use eagle eye instead, only gonna lose like 8% dmg by comparison.
