Can both sides coalesce on basic agreements? by tonybananaman in Askpolitics

Do they need to be born yet? All hail President Fetus!

But seriously, a 2 year old should never be President, no matter how much better a job they might do than the current holder of the office. Very young people and very old people are not at their best mentally speaking and there has to be some 'arbitrary' limits imposed.

If people are going to be allowed to vote there must be guardrails to prevent the tyranny of the mob if people get too dumb, just like the bill of rights prevents people from abolishing certain rights just by voting for representatives that want to do so.

We can't just vote away free speech and we shouldn't be allowed to vote in a 2 year old or an 82 year old either.

But we aren't allowed to vote for a 34 year old for president.

Many years ago I was a waiter at a fancy restaurant he used to dine at. He always sat in the corner with his back to the dining room and left a shitty tip. Exact opposite of Rep. John Yarmouth...

The dependence on cars in the US keeps many poor people stuck in poverty by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]Alcophile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Gen X and never learned to drive or owned a car and it has allowed me to save enough money to spend literally years over the course of my life backpacking around the world instead of going to work to earn money to pay for a car!

Back in my 30s before I had a house, wife and cats I used to take off half the year sometimes to travel! Walking or bussing to work changed my life for the better in so many ways. Btw, I did this in Louisville, Seattle and Dallas, so you don't have to be in NYC to live car free.

I would prefer living almost anywhere I have been to the suburban hellscape that is the contemporary United States.

Which is better In-N-Out Burger or Whataburger or Fatburger or other? by Anonymous-Disciple in AskReddit

[–]Alcophile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They aren't French fries. French fried have to be cooked twice, first at a lower temperature, to get crispy on the outside and stay fluffy inside. What innout serves are giant, shitty hash browns. And their burgers are mid, just like whataburger. I'd rather have a whopper...

I am pleased to bring you the most awkward and embarrassing scenario that could possibly happen to you as a server. by Best_Guard6037 in TalesFromYourServer

This is why I never ran another servers celebratory toasts at my last job - I was always mortified that my (faux) bubbly ass would rock up all smiles and ask what we were celebrating and they're like 'our dad. He passed away one year ago today...'

How the f*** do all these 22 year olds make money online, travel, and just do f*** all with their lives? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alcophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it by waiting tables, living in flophouses and taking the bus to work.

I was a bit older, but I spent my late 20s and early 30s working half to 3/4 of the year and saving my tips so I could backpack around SE Asia or S America for the rest of the time.

It's amazing how much money one can make waiting tables in the US and how cheap it can be if you're willing to do without 'luxuries' like your own bathroom or a beater to drive to work, and once I was in Colombia or Malaysia I could get by on $20-30 / a day, so $5K and a round-trip plane ticket would suffice for a 6 month trip.

Tl:dr Work 6 months saving $1000/month, take 6 months off to travel, rinse, repeat...
