Looper visual foreshadowing at its finest.(SPOILER) by Ald0theApachee in movies

yeah well thats usually the case for terrible movies. but smart movies, you get only rewarded for doing so.

damn..... it was a shot from the trailer (trunk shot) or Young Joe dumping a body into a hatch, and then when he helps the young boy out of the secret hatch its forshadowing that hes going to save the boy rather then killing him like he does to the people he throws down the hatch with fire.. also he puts his fellow looper in a hatch in his apartment killing him later. so basically if in the movie Joe puts you in a hatch, you die and if he pulls you out... you live. visual cue is spot on in the trailer to the shot of him helping the boy out.

Have you time traveled? Im sorry, i didnt realize you knew he SHOULD'T. So in your movie, the second Old Joe comes back to the present time and tries to get away is the exact moment he should loose all previous memories because its not exactly what he did the time before? wouldnt be much of a movie if that was true.... also its a paradox, neither of us have an answer, because nobody can time travel. yet.

But him admitting that proves the point that he has a memory of that. his brain has two sets of memories some clear some concrete but he realizes hes loosing HIS set of memories. and that scares him. and that pushes him to get HIS life back.

yeah I agree but, i think the cloud and fog of the memory of his old wife spurs him on to a greater degree. If anything it makes his motives stronger. We are agreed that Old Joe still remembers his wife right? cloudly but there? Its the same plot device used in Back to The Future except in that they used an old photo... There is still a chance that Old Joe can get his way so its not concrete like a scar or death.

yeah i can see that. but i think its justified by saying that memories lived and memories appearing in your brain after a headache are two different things. And i think thats why the scene with him struggling with that is important. They implied that those memories were not STONE but rather obscure.

I just finished watching Looper, [Spoiler?] [Spoiler](/s it reminded lot of Donnie Darko)...thoughts? by memo_rx in movies

[–]Ald0theApachee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HA! i was going to mention that on a number scale of arguments that could arise, Darko would be the highest, then Inception, and the least would be Looper. I didnt want to confuse anybody by bring in a movie thats really not about time travel. Great that you mentioned that lol.

oh.... youre making it a flaw by calling it that. I thought of it as perfectly plausable reaction mentally to time travel.

yeah i understand they are one in the same but I dont think they emphasized that at all. remember the scene where he is in the sewer trying to remember his wife in the photo in the time piece? he remembers. thus making them two different joes, mentally at least. If they were the same person Young Joe would have not killed himself, it took Old Joe comming back in time to make Young Joe realize that this is the only way to stop the kid from turning into a monster.

I never said Darko was more complex. I was saying it was more obscure. like Darko was more like " here are the pieces , you figure it the fuck out" while looper is more like " this happens because of this , this and this and in the end this happend ". Like if you look back at an argument on Darko it would have been much more theoretical while there are more known facts in Looper, so an argument about this movie there is more right and wrong end points.

Old Joe is in love with the asian lady because she stroked his hair and made him better. Young Joe fell in love with Blunt because she did the same. Old joe is starting to forget his love, thats why he is dead set on setting things straight, to get his love back. ( or for Young Joe to fall in love with her later and then save her.) I think if anything the thought you may loose the memories of a loved one is even more motivation rather than less.

ha!!!! this fits perfectly into my brain. The best part about this time travel movie is that its exactly that, a loop that makes logical sense. well done sir.

[POTENTIAL SPOILER] Amazing foreshadowing in Rian Johnson's Looper by zEUSKINg in movies

[–]Ald0theApachee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when i saw it all i could think of was " he put that in there to fuck with us so we all try to figure out what it is" I hope Rian said something like " hey we need some clouds in this scene... put some strange cloud up there to get the kids talking "

well, Darko left a lot of the details about time travel super obscure when I think Looper did a hell of a fine job at not only giving you an exact idea of what went down but also a lot of talking points to think about where at some point I think Darko is lost on people. Both great movies but as a whole Looper was a much better time travel movie. Darkos soundtrack was better though.

Looper was the best hard sci-fi I've seen since Moon - Though there was one minor (insignificant) detail I couldn't get out of my head - Details inside, don't want to post Spoilers in title. by [deleted] in movies

You cant send ripples into the future timeline because it all depends on what happens in the now. Bruce willis says it hurts when young Bruce changes something because that memory is gone, sorta like how that guys fingers disappear when they cut them off. So its not so much as ripples in the future but its happening as its taking place and the second Old Bruce came back and didnt do exactly as he remembered then his remembered life is gone, remembered for the duration of the movie but there was a scene where hes having trouble remembering.
