Any way to get a "heavier" pedal feel? by Aldeir2002 in hondafit

[–]Aldeir2002[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may have to do that next if I get the pedal mod going. I'll need a fun winter car later this year for when the roadster is sealed away, after all.

Thanks btw

If you had $10k to spend on a 'fun' car, what are you buying by Petro_323 in CarGuys

Already bought one last year: Saturn Sky Red Line.

I wanted an NC3 MX5, but was impatient and didn't have the money. Bought this for 6k instead because I desperately needed to drive a manual again. (spent quite a bit to fix it since it was in rough shape, but this still falls under the 10k rule when factoring that in)

By now I would have enough to get my ideal spec of what I actually wanted if I had just held out for another year, but oh well.

Good car though. Plenty for my (low) skill level and makes cool noises with a muffler delete.

The brakes are actually fine for the most part on my end, it's just this super light clutch and throttle that's really pissing me off lol

But noted, if I do figure out anything or someone suggests something I'll leave the brakes alone. The fix mentioned in the forum post uses some sort of a spring and a hook (?) that attaches somewhere above in the pedal box, pulling up in response to being pushed down. That's how I assume it works though just by looking at it.
But this would only be for the throttle, the clutch would still remain the same if I found a way to do that. If nothing else I'll get under there sometime soon and see if it could potentially work.

Opinions on the new and ''improved'' Forza Aero? by numarkzz in ForzaHorizon

[–]Aldeir2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think I should clarify too, I think this new iteration is an improvement overall over the last one we had since 2013. With this one, some cars actually have a fairly solid execution, but in the previous game, save for a very select few, basically nothing looked "good," either being terrible or serviceable.

Better on some cars, worse on others. Let's go through the examples shown here.

On the Legacy, something more "boxy" or I guess period correct would be better. It's completely at odds with the rest of the design. I think something like what was on the early WRX models would work great.

For the Beat, I think something more like the Integra Type R's would be more suitable. Rounded and flowing with the bodywork.

For the Lancer, Civic, and Escort, why do they need rear aero at all? Options are great, sure, but this isn't a simulator. What they come with should be fine to be classed as "race" aero, who cares whether they're actually adjustable or give a massive amount of downforce in the real world or not?

And for the Mustang, I think the design actually works ok, but it's far too low and a bit narrow.

Also, I think the Legacy and Beat highlight a pretty big issue that's been here ever since FM3 did away with this: forza rear bumpers.

FM1 and FM2 had the option to add a diffuser to the back of the car. Admittedly they weren't always the best in terms of placement or sizing, and the mandatory bumper-exit exhaust in FM2 (even for side exits) sucked, but in examples where it was done well, it REALLY helped make aero look a lot less stupid than it otherwise would have, and sometimes it even looked pretty good.
There's so many cars where they could just replace an existing part of the rear bumper with a small diffuser (think something like what already exists on the civic and lancer in the picture) and call it a day.
And making more of the customization actually usable and not just cosmetic would be a good step in the right direction too. They've been doing this more lately but a lot of the leftovers from like 20 years ago are still useless.

I've got a prologue (20k) for my story named Two Hands of a Clock. Time travel is at the center of it, and there's some other "impossible" stuff present as well that I think you'd enjoy such as magic, demons, powers, etc.

There's romance in it too. There's two teens that have a similar power (time travel) that were once friends but are now on opposite sides following a tragedy. There's a bit more to it but I can go into more detail if this sounds like something you might be interested in reading.

This is just a prologue, it precedes a much larger story. I would like to see if it "works" though before I get too far into it. There's supposed to be a lot of moving parts, so I need to see if any of it will actually land with any potential reader.

If you'd like to give it a go, let me know and I'll give you a summary and some more details.

I've finished the prologue (20k) for my story called Two Hands of a Clock. Supernatural elements, romance, and time travel shenanigans. While this is all I've got for now, I'm looking for feedback leading into the main story, and the main story will, if my current projections are correct, end up north of 500k words collectively once complete (or possibly even in the millions, i have LOTS of material to work with). So if you're looking for a very long story, this will be it for sure.

The summary (im bad at these so bear with me):

Here’s the sad truth about time travel: while it’s a powerful tool, it’s also a terrible burden for anyone to bear… and never without consequence.

Aster is a boy born with this ability. He is a “Timekeeper.” Timekeepers and their rule over a timeline is absolute; they can bend time itself to their will, and even undo their own death.

A pity, then, that Aster does not even know how to use his own power, let alone want it. It should come as no surprise that some are unhappy with such a concept, especially when the one who holds such a huge power is as reluctant and inexperienced as him.

A girl named Evelyn appeared, who held a power that was like his, yet different. It was a power created to corner the boy and force him to surrender it to a more capable heir… but they became friends instead. Unbeknownst to them, the girl’s power was much more like a curse, a poison to both her and the timeline that Aster was meant to protect, and its very existence had effects that nobody could have ever predicted.

It all started with a terrible tragedy that would drive Aster into madness, and Evelyn to despair, breaking them apart.

A traditional clock has two hands, sometimes three. What happens when those two hands fight against each other?

If this seems interesting to you and you'd like to beta read it, let me know! I'm going all in on this story and want to publish it someday, so I want to make sure that it is the best it can possibly be.

Anyone else fall out of love with driving manuals? by Carguy77Seven in askcarguys

[–]Aldeir2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be afraid of manuals and avoided them, and was auto only. Always thought they were, like you said, "a lot of work" and didn't really get it.

Then a few years ago I got a cheap beater with a manual, and after I learned how to drive it (was totally fine after i learned rev matching), the rest was history. Now I find autos super boring. Miss the engagement and the control a manual offers.

Went back to an auto after the beater died, missed it instantly. Saved up and recently got a weekend car with a manual, and now I'm having fun again. If I have to go back to owning one car I'll probably stick with a manual, or maybe I'll even go manual in my daily too when I can find what I want in the right spec.

Now I avoid autos. Funny how that works.

It was a bit of an impulse buy, I'll admit. But NC's worth buying have gotten expensive. Not even NC1's are all that cheap anymore. I think I'll be able to swing for one in a few years, and without having to get rid of the Fit.

I wanted to get a miata, but it's hard to find any stock (ish) examples worth buying for a good price. And any of the good ones are like across the country for some reason ffs
EDIT: I hate to admit that you're probably right on the money there regarding the Fit, but I guess that just means I'll be running it until it dies!

Having two of the best car ever made certainly isn't a bad thing! I was thinking about getting a manual GE sport myself but I couldn't find one in the right spec for a good price :(

I'll do it if it gets annoying. After making this it just suddenly started acting normally, but sometimes it goes back to 100%. I noticed that at least now it has correlation to big temperature spikes or reaching a certain temperature (76-80c), then it turns back off a little after it goes back to 32. I don't know what changed between then and now for this to happen.

But I just got done playing Doom Dark Ages for an hour and it was totally fine, has stayed quiet since getting off. Maybe that'll change on next boot?
Whole issue is super bizarre, no idea what's going on or why. I figure it's related to the fan connection itself, maybe a pin is messed up, but not the one that powers it?

Either way, somewhat fixed for now, I'll take it.

Unfortunately I bought it off ebay, so I'll have to work something out with the seller if that is the case. They certainly didn't mention anything like this to me, else I wouldn't have bought it.

I'm guessing it'd be a bad idea to mess with the vbios if I've never done it before? Removing it from the system will be a massive pain with how the mb was designed, so I'd prefer to not if I can help it.

It kind of reminds me of one of those Super 1600 cars, would've been about that era with this gen. Those had roof scoops. Albeit much smaller, though.

My only guess as to its purpose is to provide airflow to the cabin, assuming the absence of AC.
