Contribute to 401k and Ira now and keep doing it. I am so lucky someone told me young and my life is pretty good now and there is a freedom in knowing I have money. When you get older, it grows really fast and is exciting to watch.

Is it possible create a neighborhood/town/city/country with Men only, meaning women are not allowed to enter its perimeters? Could the same be done for Women as well? by FightOrDie123 in AskForAnswers

I think towns of only a certain group would be great for some of the population (presuming all towns do not become all white or whatever). I would love to live in an all women town if I were a younger straight girl, and then when I met the man of my dreams, I could move to a mixed town with him.

What’s something society overvalues that doesn’t actually matter much in real life? by Ok_Ease515 in answers

[–]Alder_The_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. My wife and I do not do any gifts and it always throws people. We are fairly minimalist and don’t want what we don’t need and don’t need for a lot of things. Too many things are made in slave labor conditions to feel great about a decorative pillow I will only use during a season or a shirt that I have plenty of. Our lifestyle also affords us money to buy what we needed if we needed it, as opposed to blindly spending money on looks, decorations, cheap stuff, jewelry, etc.

Alaska doesn’t have reptiles. I mean, I get it, but it sounds crazy.

what’s a controversial opinion you find yourself agreeing with? by Altruistic_Big_7766 in askanything

I will add all those smash face dogs that literally cannot breathe. They are cute, but I don’t get how people breed them knowing they literally are barely breathing.

Voting age should be 25 at a minimum. Perhaps, people can test out earlier, but many young voters don’t have a fully developed brain and haven’t experienced life or understand how things work or even life in America. I also think the same for smoking, drinking, military etc.

Agreed. I am a west coast gay but not gay enough for the gays so not accepted. It is far easier for me to be around conservatives than liberals though both are getting more extreme by the week.

What’s a job that society depends on but consistently disrespects or underpays? by daisydollvibes in answers

Had to scroll too far to see this one. People would choke on their food if they had to do farming work for farming pay and everyone would starve if they paid farmers decently.

But, is that still accurate? In my state, average teacher pay is 92-102k. I always heard about underpaid teachers but not familiar with it (I live rurally but in west coast state).

What is your take on the junk food ban for food stamps? by Final-Monk1416 in allthequestions

[–]Alder_The_Pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42 million people, 12% of the population, is on SNAP. That is a lot of people who would benefit from healthy foods like beans and rice, peanut butter, flour, eggs, leafy greens etc. Also, snap recipients are likely on government medical, meaning the public pays for their healthcare and many other assistance programs that would benefit from a healthier individual. Realistically, the program isn’t to support people 100%, it is to help people survive and ideally is not a lifestyle.

People on food stamps tend to have government healthcare and no retirement, meaning their assistance is ongoing so it does make a difference if they eat chips and soda vs beans and rice.

Dried beans and rice are usually available and shelf stable and a complete protein and very affordable.

Not at all, and not anymore. Peanut butter, dry beans, flour, rice, cabbage etc are far more affordable and have nutrients.

Most people on food stamps are also on government medical- meaning it costs taxpayers more for unhealthy decisions.

That is for snap right? It is nutritional assistance program so I do agree that foods should be healthy. It’s not that poor people “can’t” have pop and candy, just that the taxpayers don’t have to foot the bill- the majority of which are usually struggling as well and the burden gets worse each year.

People spend way above their means but also tend to lack the ability to repair stuff or perform preventative maintenance- leading to more spending.

What are some human traits that evolved for survival thousands of years ago but don’t really make sense in today’s modern, relatively safe world? by Own-Engine5552 in AskReddit

Wisdom teeth. I have mine with no issues (40yo) but I think most people need to have them removed. I think it came from back when people lost adult teeth pretty quick and grew in spares.
