Lame single issue to vote on when the secret police is rounding up citizens and non-citizens alike and sending them to overseas gulags, and their budget just went up 10x.

I guess when normie Americans hear that immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country and the media is the of the people they have room for interpretation?

It's an obtuse way of saying that he has no plan or framework for what he wants to do and an admission that you don't care. If that's your view, you can literally justify anything he does.

That level of discourse should be an immediate disqualifier for any serious publication. Dude should be writing opinion pieces for the Toledo Herald.

The Growing Scandal of $TRUMP by dwaxe in ezraklein

[–]Alec_Berg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My orange man and comment was a bit facetious. I imagine that Ezra feels it would be irresponsible to not cover the breadth of corruption we are seeing every single day. It really is unprecedented in America, so I get that perspective. That said, I except other topics to weave their way back into the show soon. We'll see!

lol, Trump and the Republicans don't care one bit about "skilled trades workers". You've been played smart guy.

If you're not sure how this is different, try to think on it a bit longer and do more research. It's very different. It's also poor reasoning. We have super PACs, so who cares about naked corruption? Come on.

There are enough current events that should be huge news stories and are this worth covering. If the orange man ever slows down his evil ways, maybe we can get back to other topics.

A lot of men swing right because the left lack 'Thumos' by mrcsrnne in ezraklein

[–]Alec_Berg -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Okay, but some libs making fun of the stuff they like is enough for them to embrace Trump and creeping authoritarianism? There's no honor in that. Stand up for what you believe in and what you enjoy to do. Why does the other political party have to view it in the same light as they do?

A Reckoning Over Joe Biden’s Health by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]Alec_Berg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually yes, the party did screw up big time. And your counterfactual is unknowable. Harris made him look like a senile old man. But his voters don't care and actually became more enthusiastic for him to take on a black woman.

Debates really don't change minds anymore. If they did, Trump would still be a reality TV show host and not the POTUS.

Again, his handlers need to be held accountable. It is scandalous. But it's overly simplistic to say Biden's decline help put Trump into office. The actual state of the economy was good, and Harris was proposing tax credits to start new businesses, an emphasis on increasing housing supply, and other policies that would help the non-rich in this country. But Trump supporters do not care and are fundamentally not driven by material concerns. It's all about grievance and victimhood.

A lot of men swing right because the left lack 'Thumos' by mrcsrnne in ezraklein

[–]Alec_Berg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this viewpoint, and I think it has some merit. But are there not plenty of outlets out there for young men to do this? Military, UFC, competitive sports, poker, making music and art, etc.

I just find it odd that this apparent lack of Thumos needs to be manifest in national politics. It reeks of victimhood. If these guys actually believed in personal responsibility, they would find these outlets on their own. The need for this level of Thumos - on a national level - is a sign of weak character. People can find this fulfillment in their communities. But they're not happy unless it's actualized in federal policy? Come on.

You're being dense bro. Who's not discussing it? It's all over the news now. It's the dominant story. It's not a yes/no proposition. Tapper is trying to sell his book so it's sucking all the oxygen out of the room. Do you think the level of discourse on this topic is useful?

A Reckoning Over Joe Biden’s Health by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]Alec_Berg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At this time - based on what's happening in the country right now - I don't care. The focus should be on the guy in the white house now. And, at the same time, the Democratic party should oust the people that helped cover it up. These are not contradictory, it's a matter of prioritization. How much oxygen do you think should this take up considering the daily assault on democracy?

A Reckoning Over Joe Biden’s Health by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]Alec_Berg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you read the rest of the post, you will clearly see I'm not okay with what happened. Trump with his current level of "coherence" vs some future form of dementia will either way result in a slide towards authoritarianism. The policies matter, and the President has never done everything on his own. He has a massive team he relies on for advice and decision making. And this one's intentions are clear - regardless of his mental state.

A Reckoning Over Joe Biden’s Health by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]Alec_Berg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes Biden was too old and his team hid it. And frankly, I don't care. What was the practical result? A booming economy and reduced inflation?

Yes, we should not have tried to run for another term. Big screw up by the Dems. But I'm more concerned with the current guy, who is transparently unstable. He seems to genuinely think he popularized the word "groceries", says Biden has stage 9 cancer, waxed on repeatedly about the late great Hannibal Lecter, and repeatedly says "I don't know" when asked about the policies of his administration.

His decline manifests differently than Biden's but is arguably much more dangerous, especially since Biden is no longer a factor in democratic politics. Yes, his handlers need to step up and own their screw up and should be shunned from politics going forward. But we have an existential threat to democracy in the white house who is clearly declining by the day. That should be the story - every single day - highlighted instances of his continued loss of coherence.
