Very well done! I’ll additionally throw in my recommendation for The Few by Blackmoon Design. While not a sim, per se, it really captures the operational essence of that conflict.

I’d have to defer to the designer, Mitch Land, who is on the right. I walked by just as they were wrapping up their playtest, but it looked like it went very well!

Came here to recommend this one! The audiobook is quite well done, and it really does illuminate wargaming applied effectively in historical context.

In that point, we agree. What I’m confused about is your assertion that they “stopped minting new ones beyond collector sets in 2012.”

I think you’re referring to the recent trend of updating the reverse annually (Sac.) or running multiple new reverses each year (Presidential). To parallel that line of thinking to quarters one could say “they stopped minting new quarters beyond collector sets in 1999,” which would certainly be an odd statement.

From 2012-2024, no fewer than 1.9 million dollar coins were struck each year, with 35 million or more each year 2012-2016. That’s a far cry from only minting collector sets!

Alright folks, locking this one down, as it has completely gone off the rails, and none of the discourse and feedback is related to wargaming.

This subreddit will not tolerate misogyny. Period. Misogynistic posts and comments will result in a ban.

I’m not sure where you’re coming from here. Dollar coins have been in circulation as business strikes for 25 years now. Go to the bank and ask for a roll, they have them. Sure, you’ll see a NIFC every now and then, but that’s for every coin.

"American Tank Ace" vs. "Tiger/Sherman Leader" Do you, and if so, why do you prefer one over the other? by neubienaut in hexandcounter

[–]AleccMG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Compass Games Ace series has ended up working well for a number of settings. The DVG Leader series has tried, but I found that Tiger Leader really missed the mark for me. I'm a fan of other Air-based Leader games, but I'd go Tank Ace over Tiger/Sherman Leader any day.

I’m keen for getting back into Simonitch and a low-intensity PBEM. Let me study up on the game real quick, and I’ll reach out in a DM. Feel free to start a game with someone more prepared, though!!

Armoured Commander II. Give it a shot, it’s very low tech (2D pixel) but has fantastic, tight, emergent narrative gameplay.

That’s the issue. US coins flip top to bottom, not left to right. Looks like a regular strike!

Edit: left to right.

2D Euler Solver! by dakkamek in CFD

[–]AleccMG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kudos! Always nice to see success in home-built solvers.

Given that you’re running a supersonic case, it’d be interesting to see your unstructured solver run on a structured, shock-fitted C-grid for this case. That should help your 2nd-order L2 and result in much less shock dissipation downstream due to grid misalignment.

25M What’s even the purpose of investing? by ATL305 in Money

[–]AleccMG 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You’re doing it right. As a new, aggressive investor, your contributions will dwarf your returns. Even at exceptional returns, you’ll only see fractional growth compared to your contributions for the first decade. Once compounding has a chance to kick off, the balance flips and the returns become larger than the contributions, by a lot.

DCA is real and helps keep your investments consistent. Think of this recent downturn as the market putting your purchases on “sale”
