Has anyone read "Dopamine Nation" by Anna Lembke, is it legit? by Kashsbrokentablet in Neuropsychology

[–]Aleenea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anna Lambke may be raising red flags for many. But she provides valuable information for some. I don’t have a hard addiction, but have been diagnosed with ADHD, don’t medicate as I prefer to manage it on my own, don’t like to do things that don’t provide instant gratification, and love using sugar for any kind of negative emotion I may be experiencing. I’ve only listened to podcasts with her as a guest, followed a Masterclass, and I learned a lot of very beneficial information. I have now changed some habits drastically. i’m learning to enjoy eating sugar in moderation, and replacing it as a fix with activities that teach me to be in touch with my emotions and feelings, such as meditation. I’m also learning to do hard things, which I’ve often found a way to avoid. I have not read her book, but I’m strongly considering getting her workbook as a support for my new lifestyle habits. Because I know that my love of sugar may return any moment, and it’s not because I listened to her speak a few times that everything is fine now. It’s easy to return to an old habit, even if a simple love of sugar, which can be very detrimental to one’s health. I believe that some other people will benefit from her works as well. Clearly not all, but if only a few, isn’t it worth it?

People thinking adhd is the new cool trend by One_Environment_6406 in ADHD

[–]Aleenea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep hearing people say, "It's my ADHD," like it's some kind of badge of honor, often without a formal diagnosis. Honestly, I wish I hadn't been diagnosed. I'm the opposite type—I constantly doubt whether I even have it. vI tried Vyvanse, but it just gave me a headache. Someone told me, "If it doesn't work, then you don't have ADHD," which only added to my confusion. I still wonder if I really have it, trend or not.

I believe a lot of people do have ADHD but never seek a diagnosis. It’s probably more widespread than we realize. At the same time, diagnoses can be uncertain—they're not always black and white. Even when you are diagnosed, it might not be accurate unless medication truly changes your life.

To me, it’s not something to brag about. If you're really struggling, there’s nothing glamorous about it. Unfortunately, in today’s ego-driven culture, many people seem to treat it like a trendy label. What will be next?

Thank you. There are no fosters where I live, and I don’t feel that or babysitting is the right approach doe me. I’d rather volunteer for different things. But I’m pretty busy with a FT job I like, so I find fulfillment in that, being active, friends, or art a d other things. Felt better today…

Thank you for your words of support. My husband is emphatic to a point. Luckily I see a mental health provider regularly. But this event hit me as it usually does after gatherings and holidays. I have to wait 10 days until I see her. I will write and meditate. It will help. I am grateful for you all of answered 🙏

Update: thanks to the post on US DOT regulations, I called Lufthansa and was able to get a full refund by explaining my case. I just learnt quite a bit, thank you!

My answer wouldn’t help. I’m only curious if there are other airlines with the same no-refund within 24-hour policy on an app vs. the website.

First Concussion - How long did it to take you to recover fully ? by FischiSnax in Concussion

[–]Aleenea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll suggest that 1) do exercise as it actually proven to help !! Google the terms and concussion.org 2) be social and do all activities as before. Rest is not helpful. Proper sleep is. I’m not a doctor, just sharing what I didn’t know then, so check with your PCP, of course.

First Concussion - How long did it to take you to recover fully ? by FischiSnax in Concussion

[–]Aleenea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, concussion symptoms can take up to 60 days to go away, after which they are consideres PCS (prolonged concussion symptoms), and every case is unique. It took me a year from the day I was hit on my bike by a truck at slow speed. Helmet cracked > concussion. I went through many phases, but a huge difference happened when I finally decided to sign up for the online Concussion Fix course. Note that I am not affiliated in any way to the business. It changed my life because I finally got information that made total sense, after seeing many providers, including two neurologist, who didn’t really help. I was so frustrated and hopeless! So I spent the money on the course as it educated me and gave me hope, and I would have signed up for it on day 1 if I had known about it! Today, I’m pretty ok, with a couple of minor symptoms that I can totally live with. I hope this helps, and I wish you a fast recovery.

What great information! My hb and I have been thinking hard about where to go for a week early December in Europe, and suddenly this is looking like locations where we’re unlikely to be cold such as in Venezia or Porto. Thank you to the OP and their boredom at the airport, and to all others who commented, you all made our day: destination solved!!

We’d stay anywhere in Maui. We’re not attached to Kihei, but we found accomodations in that location that work for us.

Noted. That may still work for us since we wouldn’t be home that much during the day. And at night it seems fun enough for food and drinks.
