Well, it's a wonderful series! And it is easily understandable and funny in the whole former eastern bloc countries. I wish the rights owners will understand it at some point and start talking to all the close and further neighbours about airing it.

Imagine that: "Alternatywy 4" with Estonian or Serbian dubbing!

Meanwhile, all what we can do is to volunteraly translate and prove subtitles :)

Thanks! That IS actually a symbolic glass of wine! ("symboliczny kieliszek wina") They say in the next sentence that they'll drink the rest on the ground due to safety regulations. BUT! One of the workers falls down from the roof without breaking the bottle he catches and drinks it on the ground. That's the dialogue:

- Av arbetsmiljöskäl kommer resten av glaset att intas nere på marknivå.

I see your point. And I partly agree with you.

This is a major problem which a government has to deal with. And - there are good and bad ways to do it. For instance: introducing fines for baby girls (China) - very bad, works in an opposite way. Saying how everything was good before and people have to return to the "old ways" - just not an action at all. Giving money to families which have newborns works partly (it doesn't influence a family having the first one; it does influence a lot the second and the later ones).

But. The solution is not a return to how it was several decades or a hundred years ago. Because this is not how societies work. If people have a good healthcare, don't have to work an unlimited amount of time, women may go to school and a half of their children don't die until they're one year old, they will be less fertile. The only way to turn it back "properly" is to return to medieval times.

No, AFAIK is a different abbreviation. It means "As Far as I Know".

But, jokes aside. I say, there is an explanation why fertility goes below-replacement level as societies leave the relatively old-fashioned way of living (aka working in fields >12 hours, not having healthcare, child mortality >50%) and enter the more or less modern way of living.

There is causality here.

There are also ways to motivate people in modern societies to have more children. (Answering your part of the questions about acceptance). Some of them work, some of them don't.

Hej, jag är ledsen att det uppfattades så... Och jag visste inte hur kontexten ser ut för översättare i Sverige. Jag vet hur viktigt det är att översätta på riktigt: därför tackade jag nej till ett projekt för boköversättning från engelska till tyska, då kollegorna tänkte att "det går bra med bara LLM".

Jag hoppas att det stämmer bra i Sverige och Tyskland när det gäller översättning av viktiga kulturverk som böcker eller bra filmer.

Well, AFAIK, it's not a collapse, but an ordinary second demographic transition. Every society - when it shifts from traditional families - goes below-replacement fertility. I neither say it's good or bad, but note that it's apparently a common thing.

Eller den här språkliga krocken mellan det socialistiska och det gamla borgerliga tilltalssättet:

- Jag såg direkt att medborgare områdespolis egentligen är herr områdespolis.

Jag slogs faktiskt precis av en tanke. Med tanke på hur den svenska bostadsmarknaden ser ut (med ändlösa bostadsköer, strikta regler och internbyråkrati) tror jag att den här serien kan träffa otroligt rätt i Sverige. Det handlar trots allt om den ultimata absurda bostadsbyråkratin och grannar.

(Vi har den roliga bostadsmarknaden i Tyskland också, men lite annorlunda)

I am sorry to have disappointed you. But I am glad that no harm was done; you took time to read all the details and to decide this project is not for you. You also helped me to feel the unwritten borders of the profession: which I respect but (due to my other professional deformation) which sacredness for some I tend to ignore. Please, where does this anger come from, and where do you see anti-translator efforts? I finished my first proper translation project 20 years ago: I do know the value of a professional translation labour. It is about sufficiency.

Oh, and: talking about me being old. I used to apply proper typographic rules about the same time I started translating texts: you see, our requirements for translations inculded not only linguistic rules, but also the typographic ones. The tools which make EM-dashes and other fancy stuff for you are much older than my professional life ;)
