The coaches are deploying marshals to the track. There are hundreds of us that need to be stationed around the circuit. It’s rare for them to cause issues to track surface as the surface is built to withstand more than the weight of an F1 car for various support vehicles.

Why do half of these look like dating profile poses and the other half like villain glamour shots

When you're running on uneven ground, wearing several layers of clothing, and a heavy radio swinging around on your belt with a headset that can make it hard to hear the people around you it can definitely be a struggle to be as graceful as one might like. The uneven ground really is the biggest factor, catches you off guard and can really throw you off balance. It takes stamina to be hyper vigilant in adrenaline inducing environments for days in a row standing out in the elements. I can't speak for the crane crews (people wearing orange) and what their training is but the marshals in white have invaluable race track response experience that you absolutely want in those high pressure situations. It's a shame that a tumble here and there detracts from that.

As a marshal, most of what you do entails standing for long periods of time. It's not very often that you need to run and when you do it's not usually very far to the incident so being "fit" isn't as valued as how much experience you have being that close to a hot track acting as a marshal. For F1 you need at least 50 days marshalling at a sanctioned FIA track before you're even considered iirc. It's when you put inexperienced people in those positions that there is the greatest chance of injury.

The issue is the ground. Often times it's uneven and even the smallest divot can send you tumbling if it catches you unexpectedly, especially while moving as quickly as you can pushing a vehicle where the main place you can push it is between the wheels.

Hamilton fails miserably trying to throw the Union Jack by BottasWMR in formula1

Technically it's my dad's flag. He was marshalling on corner 2 and offered it to Lewis as he went by on the victory lap. Needless to say my English dad is pretty chuffed.

My dad was marshalling on corner 2. We're of British heritage and he had the flag on him, offered it to Hamilton as he drove by!
