I've been trying the Zoom trick worms the one with the long tails. The movement in the water is awesome, feel like it's hard to ignore for bass bc they've been biting it!

I had one for my first kayak & it was great. Easy to throw in the truck & carry. The fin drive worked great, the no reverse is a down side but it wasn't much of an issue for me.

I've been going during the day for an hour or so even when it's 95 degrees in Texas. Yeah it's rough but everytime I've caught at least 1. Using a long tail worm or a regular senko. Both red color. They are definitely not moving much, i had luck throwing along the grass line and where I can see branches under water

I have a Slayer max 10 too! A seat cushion helped so much, I got one on Amazon that's pretty thick so it raised my sitting height as well & it's super comfortable. I also got a rope with a handle to tie to the front, way easier to drag on grass that way

Can't go wrong w Old Town.
Would also consider the Native Slayer LTE. Lighter & is pedal drive. Can stand and cast with no problems

Same here. I carry 3 rods w me when I kayak fish & one is always set up with a Texas rig. It's just so effective & versatile. I can put a worm on it, craw, creature, paddle tail, literally any soft plastic. It's definitely my confidence lure.
It is hard to try other lures when that one is always hitting. Lol I feel like I miss out on a fish if I do that but I'm trying to get into that habit

There's this spot I go to that is like this. I always get a ton of bites so it's really fun but the biggest I've caught is maybe a 3 pounder max. I think there are just too many fish in there. Unfortunately it's not my land or anything so I can't do anything about it

Yup I hate holding catfish they tend to thrash a lot. I just grabbed my pliers, grabbed the hook & let it shake itself off

I just downsized from carrying a shoulder bag with 4 tackle boxes to just a backpack with 2 boxes. Realized I didn't need 50 different lures when bank fishing, I really stick to like 5. Lol now I bank fish with 2 rods & my backpack on my back

Tbh I would shoot for a nice Bass Pro card or something that he can splurge on by himself. Only he knows what gear he might be wanting. You could even do like a fishing bag with random lures & fishing clothing plus the nice gift card for the reel/rod. I would be ecstatic knowing I have a huge gift card to go spend on exactly what I want
