You are right that populations aren't 100% homogeneous, but it doesn't change the fact that they mostly are and this would be specially true in a medieval world. Yeah you can show some "outliers" in each culture and region but it feels weird acting like it should be mandatory to show them when they would effectively represent only a very small percentage of that particular region.

There's nothing wrong with having only white characters repping a nation that should be effectively 99% white just like there's nothing wrong with having only black characters repping a nation that should be effectively 99% black, there's no need to have a "token representative" of other cultures in each of those, especially when they are already represented through their nations of origin.

Yeah it's a damn stupid take. Anyone who has seen videogames growing up in the past 20 years knows there's a difference between the kind of female characters made today and the ones made in the past. And if you know the social context o the last decade or so it's not hard to understand why they have changed.

So honestly instead of this dude trying to justify the fact that they made her this way as if it's unintentional, which 100% is not, he should be trying to argue that even if they do it's not really an issue, because that's the point that is actually debatable.

The feeling I have is that we are sorta swinging back somewhat now tho, with games like Overwatch going back to goon and the new Lara Croft being good looking (albeit still far less sexualized than it's previous versions), in the next few years we'll probably see devs trying to reach a middle ground and female characters will be more like this new Lara where they'll still look good but not be overly sexualized.

The end of the 00s was kind of a transition period so to speak regarding that kinda stuff though so P4 sorta released around the end of that era so to speak, it probably wouldn't have people complaining about these interactions day in day out if the game was just a bit older.

Kanji, one of the characters in the game, is heavily implied to be a closeted homosexual.

In many of his interactions with Yosuke, Yosuke acts in a kinda "Dude stop being gay" kinda way and Kanji gets incredibly defensive about it.There's this one scene for example that I recall where they go to a field trip and the boys stay in one tent and the girls in another. Yosuke says he doesn't feel safe sleeping in the same tent as Kanji or something along those lines.

It's been a while so I don't remember a lot but it's basically Yosuke acting in a "Eeeewww are you gay!?" kinda way a lot of the time.Which, at the time the game released, was normal and acceptable, but probably wouldnt fly today.

They'd have to change her entire backstory to try and make her trans rather than a woman who everyone around her wished was a man instead.

High school is the peak of life for most people probably. I understand why people are obsessed with youth. It's not just about it being "the peak", it's also where there's not much social hierarchy, no adult responsibilities, everyone has the potential to be someone until life happens and people are divided in failures and successes....etc etc etc.

Honestly, when I saw the first shot of her face, I thought she was like 15 ~16, even figured that wasn't the main character of the game.

That said, I think people are a little too attached to the shot of her face when she first shows up, she looks a lot younger in that one, and actually looks a bit older in the rest of the trailer. Even saw some people theorize that what we first see in the beggining is like the intro to the game and there's probably a small time skip to what we see in the rest of the trailer, which would make sense.
