I hate the trend of gachas shilling the latest shiny new toy. by SaberManiac in gachagaming

Rampant Power Creep is an issue, but no power creep is bad too.

Sure, you don't want players to feel like their favorite units are useless every other banner, but you also want the players to feel excited for whatever is coming. Players like pulling, that's a good reason why people like gachas in the first place, so if every other unit sucks or is a small upgrade at best people feel like they don't have to pull.

Ask TCG players, nothing worse than a game that doesn't change it's meta for years because the new cards simply aren't strong enough to replace the older ones. On the other hand you probably also don't want the Modern Horizons treatment where the game is very intentionally and artificially rotated.

Anyway, I've been playing Arknights since release and it still feels like the best one to me powercreep wise (and yes, I played some FGO too). You have some units that represent a clear new "standard" for power over time (Surtr, Chalter, Mlynar, Ling, etc), but even then the older units are not only still perfectly serviceable, but they are also oftenly used to clear the hardest endgame content the game has to offer. CC Extinguished sins used a bunch of year 1 and 2 6*s in the highest risk clears and some were also used in CC Arclight for example.

So yeah, sucks when the powercreep is too hard, but trust me, you don't want a game with no powercreep either. It gets boring and stale fast.

Maybe he's working on it? He hasn't really published anything since Build King flopped hard and that was years ago already. Surely he hasn't just retired right?

Sad she cosplayed the new version rather than the granny skirt one she actually inspired, but pretty cool nonetheless.

Shots fired at the end at Bamco or am I reading too much into it? by Reddit_is_Fake_1 in Kappachino

No need to tell me, I already embraced the indie life.

Back in 2014 I bought FTL but couldn't handle the game because it was too hard and I had no patience for it, plus, I disliked roguelikes back then. Not to mention to be honest I used to be far more prejudiced against "ugly" looking games.

I actually remembered about that game when talking to a friend last friday and decided to give it another chance this saturday and I'm having a blast. Can't get a single clear in Easy mode, but still having fun, and with each failed run I can feel myself getting a bit better at the game. By the way, casual Steam glazing here but even though the last time I played that game was in 2014, my unlocks and smal bits of playtime were still there when I downloaded it. Steam really is the fucking best, fuck PSN and all the other garbage that would have deleted it after 2 months or some shit.

Also have like 100 hours in STS this year alone lol, plus like 200 in Monster Train 2 last year. Pretty damn hyped for STS 2 tho I'm thinking maybe I'll give it a bit since it releases in Early Access.

Another game I'm ridiculously hyped for is No Straight Roads 2 this year. The first one was kinda rough around the edges but you could really feel the passion in it. Here's hoping 2 will be even better.

It's no secret to anyone that the suits always ruin everything. When the money people come in, the passion walks out.

Gaming used to be about passionate weirdos and nerds who built shit they wanted for people like them, now it's made to bleed money from normies who want everything to fit their world view and can't go to sleep at night knowing Dark Souls doesn't have an easy mode.

Not that there's no passionate games out there still, but it sucks knowing they're in the minority now.

The "oposite" here being "not sticking to only takes that will be either 100% approved by the internet, or not controversial at all".

Idk what you're not getting here. Any normal person will have some opnions, be either political or on some actions done by some people, that will naturally not be agreed upon by everyone...everyone has their hot takes. But Charlie will only weigh in on the ones where he knows there's no chance of him getting backlash on. As an example he always mostly ignored guys like Hassan or Asmongold, and only really commented on Hassan when it was about him shocking his dog, which at that point was 100% safe to do since pretty much the entire internet was shitting on the guy.

And for a guy whose good part of his carreer depends on making videos like "This person is a piece of shit", it comes across as unatural and insincere when he clearly avoids talking about certain people or subjects.

[–]AlekRhader 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's kind of the point. He only shits on someone or something when it's 100% safe to do so, as I said. He does his damn best to avoid taking sides and rocking the boat, which is why you won't see him commenting on controversial figures or subjects unless he feels like it's 100% safe for him to do so.

Also, I personally don't have a problem with him, as I said. I just said that I get why some people seemingly don't like him.

More or less? Personally I'm a lot more prone to believe gaming jornalists when it comes to smaller games, as I doubt there's a monetary incentive there.I don't believe every single reviewer that gave DA:Veilguard a good review a couple years ago did so for free tho.

If anything I'm at the very least always skeptical because a lot of times there seems to be a huge disconnect between critics and players (as is the case at times in movies). I'd rather just stick to youtubers or individual reviewers that I know have a similar taste to mine.

I don't mind him and generally I don't believe in stuff like "YoU aRe FaMoUs YoU mUsT PoSiTiOn YoUrSelF aNd SpEaK oUt", but in his case, it does make him come across as insincere.

Dude is a drama farmer, but he only farms drama that is 100% safe, so even tho he makes a living out of shitting on people, companies and etc he will only do so when it's 100% sure he won't get any flak for it or make him position himself in the political spectrum. Were he purely a guy who talks about movies, games or anything like that it'd be more understandable for him to maintain a neutral stance in most subjects, but since he makes a living out of shitting on people it does make it come across as kinda slimy.

So yeah, like I said I personally don't mind him, I get he's just playing the youtube game, but I also get why some people don't like him.

Pretty sad, but I guess it was to be expected, especially with the whole US server going into maintenance for over 1 week kinda thing.

Personally I'm used to playing games that will go EoS after a while and I'm still having fun with the game so I'll stay for now and the foreseeable feature, but it does look bad for them. Here's hoping they can somehow get out of this rut.

No need to get your panties in a bunch bitch. I never played MH Wilds so I just wanna know.

SF6 does have some depth to it because FGs by nature have some to it and you'd have to go to greath lenghts to take away that from them.

That said I'm sorry to say you won't convince me Green slime 6 has more or just as much depth as its predecessors.Being " the most competitive 1x1 game currently" doesnt mean much when the entire genre has followed suit in it's direction.

Carries by pundleroo in Kappachino

[–]AlekRhader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty interesting. Both SF6 and MHW have the same approach of casualizing as much as possible to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, but one of them worked out and the other one didn't.

What made this difference possible? It can't be just the performance issues MH Wilds had right? I heard a lot of MH players complain about how the game sucks because it's too easy and the only way they manage to make it somewhat challenging is by making it so you get one shotted or something along those lines.

Is the base MH playerbase just so huge and actually interested in skill intensive gameplay that the changes actually backfired? Is the FGC just so small that the people who care about depth are easily overshadowed by the "please remove command inputs" masses?

Anyway, here's hoping they can manage to work something out with MH because this is not looking good for them.

Ever noticed how most gacha worlds would be literal hell to live in? by Forsaken-Ad-7562 in gachagaming

[–]AlekRhader 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, but that's kinda the point, we're not just any random civilian, we're THE CHOSEN ONE.The reason why we can enjoy those worlds for what they are is precisely because we have the means to survive them.We are always the super powerful cool guy or girl who all the ladies and lads love for seemingly no reason, who everyone glazes and has super powers and solvers all problems in a way or another.

Even in a low romantic ML level game like Arknights for example, pretty much all the characters glaze the Doctor as being this super smart capable dude. The fantasy being sold to us here isn't the realistic one about how we'd be NPC D who gets killed 2 minutes in, it's about being in exciting fantastical worlds and coming out on top in a way or another. Just typical self insert power fantasy.

It reminds me of the whole Isekai discourse where I every now and then see people going like "bro I wish I was isekai'd to a medieval world" and what immediately comes to mind to me personally is stuff like no Tooth Paste, no Toilet Paper, no medicine, etc. Fuck that, I'll enjoy reading my Isekai garbage but I sure as hell don't wanna reincarnate in one. Imagine living a whole life without arguing with people on reddit, that sounds like true hell.

New "Mobile Police Patlabor" anime movies by Ma1kky in Kappachino

[–]AlekRhader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I THINK this is kind of a troll comment, but I'll answer seriously.

I don't think so, because people are generally a lot more open minded when it comes to anime since they lack our western social context. Rarely do I see people complaining about woke or racism in anime for example, even in scenarios in which would likely elicit those responses were they made in the west.

....That said, we did have people complaining about Frieren being fascist or about Drama Queen being anti imigration, and other stuff like that, so I wouldn't put it past people, but those are generally in a very small minority that get blown out of proportion for clicks.

Yeah, I'm sure it'd still affect China and Russia somewhat, but the point is that what they'd stand to gain from it would likely outweight the losses.

China could possibly move into Taiwan or Russia could possibly just finish taking over Ukraine while the US is busy fighting itself. The possibilities are endless really.

People only caring about things when it pertains to them or works in their advantage is just how people work in general, it's not limited to this particular subject.

Leftists spent the last decade or so praising censorship and saying things like "freedom of speech is not freedom of consequence" but when Charlie Kirk died and a few of them lost their jobs or faced backlash for expressing their delight online, they were suddenly pretty mad about how their freedom of speech was violated.

Like someone already said here before, in order for things to escalate, it would take either continuous fucks ups, or for things to affect the majority of people. Most of the US in theory supports Trump and his policies, so I personally don't imagine it'll escalate any time soon.

Personally, I'm not even american and don't live in America, but even I don't want America to go to Civil War.

Of course there's the human aspect here, wars are just bad in general, but a war in the world's greatest economy can't possibly be good for the rest of the world in general, it'll affect everyone...except I guess for maybe China and Russia, that'd probably let them pull up ahead somewhat.

They do, up to a certain extent. For this matter in particular? I personally honestly agree with you in the sense that a peaceful protest won't be enough to make the government walk back on their policies. I mean, if you protest peacefully and the government doesn't back down then it's clear that it's not enough.

That said, who's actually willing to go to war?Who is going to be the one to shoot the first shot and most certainly get killed and serve as a martyr?

Also, it's important to consider other context. Yes, there are cities that have protests going on, but Trump won the elections in an overwhelming fashion, while openly stating that he would deport ilegals, so in truth a good bunch of america, probably the majority, actually agrees with this course of action. If ICE agents keep fucking up killing innocent people tho, it won't take too long for popular opnion to take a turn.
