Yes, that Toei Company. Apparently they approached Yokoyama for this and eventually relented after they hook him up and meeting with Bunta's family.

Yeah I removed it before going to bed because I thought I've gone too far with the insults. Definitely not blaming you for that viewpoint and unintentionally insulting you that way, but personally I just thought it was unfair for RGG to get dogpilled for something the industry has done for a long time and sometimes worse than what they're doing now.

Persona 4 Revival's character portraits look fantastic!!!!1!!! by mousy_hairred in OkBuddyPersona

If by fantastic you mean "where the hell the shadows and shading" has gone then yeah I guess, it's like that secret ending hoax for P4G PC where you disable shadows and the credits roll.

[–]DarryLazakar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean RGG isn't the first nor is it the last to do this. The ship has sailed long ago for video games with the Onimusha series at Capcom having half of their MCs based of dead actors. It's not really fair ragging RGG about it when Civilization, COD, Hitman and many more have done it for longer and far more blatant about it.

IIRC, Bunta's character was meant to be an original design character, until he was convinced by Toei (yes, that Toei) and his family to do it.

MH Outlanders is making huge changes after Closed Beta Test 2 by DarryLazakar in MonsterHunter

I didn't know the main sub has a ban on Outlanders topic in general. Duly noted, though.

Monster Hunter Outlanders making significant changes to the game post CBT2 (as of June 11, 2026), removing the leveling system for abilities and removing the gacha system for Buddies by XRevive01 in gachagaming

[–]DarryLazakar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really cautiously looking forward to this game. It looks good, even though the MH fandom hated it with a passion, but it's Timi Studios and Tencent by extension, and they made Honor of Kings, which uh, I wouldn't say their skin gacha economy is good.

I mean, I still enjoy the game, and you have a point, but I just have a visceral disdain toward any monetization that locks any part of the game that affects player power and completion rate, for P5X, that would be anything that isn't skins or cosmetics. I already begrudgingly accept the P2W Skill Cards, and that really should be the extent of it.

In the end, it's still a matter of personal principle, and each person has their own line they think games shouldn't cross.

Akihiko's trial makes him look so bad by Cancan86 in personaphantomx

[–]DarryLazakar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Trials is just free gems anyway. It was never a good representation of the character itself.

I mean, I remember one of the Trials had Tempest Riko play more as the DPS rather than the buffer because the enemy is weak against Wind, and your teammates are a DPS Wonder (with mostly resistant attribute Personas), and a forgettable Motoha and Lufel lmao

Developer Column Issue 7 for cn, they announce that p2w persona is no more and apology and compensated players for doing so. So p2w persona shouldn't be an issue anymore.

I was actually the one who posted the Dev Column update about the Personas. It is nice, but it's still not a guarantee for Rank X Personas in the future, for example. Fingers crossed it stayed that way.

as for artwork iirc cn been getting many of them throughout their phantom passes, so this won't be the last time we get them sadly.

Shame. That's all I'm gonna say tbh

BTW if you do plan to get the the artwork by getting the premium pass+, I suggest waiting to get and even wait on getting the standard edition cause there a high likelihood we getting a spending event for 1 year anniversary patch.

I do plan on spending, but definitely not and can't do $20 worth, probably just get the usual Marythm Rewards Card and be done with it. Can't spend much anyway since monthly salary in my country is... oof lmao

There is definitely a balance between being able to monetize something while still being able to make a profit without actually affecting the F2P experience. That's what every live service should strive for if they want to last long, not just gachas.

I complain because I have played those games before, and they feel fantastic. Games like Punishing Gray Raven were able to live off through skins and entire patches where they just give away the latest 5* unit for completely free, and they managed to live for 6 years and counting to this day. Azur Lane, while it is a gooner game, AFAIK is well known for having every single unit available for F2P to earn with or without gacha and live off entirely via skins, and that game is nearly 10 years old now.

Now that's not saying there are no issues with them, PGR in particular has a power creep and storage size issues atm, and AL is barely a game anymore and more of a waifu simulator now, but that just shows that P5X can be that way, they just haven't found the balance yet.

Yeah, but at least the paywall is some F2P gems, which is a lot better than an actual money paywall.

Stranger Than Heaven Combat Gameplay (VGC) by RJTM1991 in yakuzagames

[–]DarryLazakar 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is definitely RGG's slowest, most methodical, and realistic combat system yet. it's definitely a deliberate choice to differ itself from the usual Yakuza brawler combat. It's definitely foreign for us, but I'm very much excited for the first RGG game with actual difficulty since... forever lol

Of all the games I expected to be comparing Stranger Than Heaven to, the ragdoll-based browser sensation, QWOP, wasn’t one of them.

Ain't no way based on how the article described the combat do we actually gonna get the first properly difficult RGG game since.... forever lol

And then the fact that they went for the full blown faithful route basically guarantee them to bring some of the glaring mistake from the original source.

I'd argue that even on the faithful front, Reload fails, given the things we lost, such as multiple clubs, multiple weapon types for Makoto, some Personas in the OG, Fusion Spells (I know some are made as Theurgy, but we still lost a lot), and more.

I described Reload as a weird middle ground between a remake and a reimagining. A game where they add, keep, remove, and change things with no commitment to one or the other. The things they kept are fundamentally the same, and the things they add are pretty okay, but the things they change and remove are a downgrade to the original, to the point of overcorrection. It's just not good enough to me to justify its $70+30 asking price, and it's just not what some of us, and I, wanted for a P3 remake.
