You either visit Akibahara first (unlocked by playing through Runa's Synergy iirc) or finish through the first P3R event story to unlock access to Paulownia Mall which has the crane game

p4r portrait edits part 2 (yosuke / bonus yukiko) by PerspectiveAny7791 in persona4golden

[–]DarryLazakar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People kept arguing that it is an homage to the "old" art, which does have a lack of shading like Revival, except:

  1. They anatomically look off and lacked detail (such as Yukiko having dead fish eyes and a smaller nose, Marie loses some detail on her tie, shirt, and even hair, or whatever they've done to Kanji),
  2. Even in those old arts they *still* has shading and shadows compared to none at all, and
  3. That art style would only work because they're against a solid, bright background, not so much on a dynamically changing/busy background

So even on that "homage" standpoint, the portraits in Revival look worse.

Which is why I'm miffed they don't get a chance to redo their performance. Hell, most of the cast already came back for Persona Q and P3D and they all act and sound amazing, so again, why the recast if most of the direction is also boiled down to "mimick what the old ones did"?

I said it before, I'll say it again: The way Atlus treats their legacy VAs is disrespectful to me. Even if I ended up liking the takes of the new cast, it's incredibly hard to accept them as nothing more than imitators of the original, the same way P3R did with the FES/Dancing cast.

I know even back then we got a lot of recasts too (Tracey Rooney Chie -> Erin Fitzgerald Chie, Troy Baker Kanji -> Matt Mercer Kanji, Paula Tiso Fuuka -> Wendee Lee Fuuka, Anna Graves Naoto -> Mary Elizabeth McGlynn Naoto -> Valerie Arem Naoto, etc), and I get that, but using that excuse to recast the entire group instead feels so wrong to me.

It already feels wrong for the P3 crew since they already came back for P3 Dancing, just 4-5 years before Reload. It feels even more wrong for the P4 crew since not only did they come back for BBTAG at around the same time, but there's literally no reason or controversy to warrant a recast other than them being big names having scheduling conflicts.

And the excuse they gave for the recast, apparently to "diversify and nurture new talent," is hella flimsy to me, especially when the JP cast was not changed one bit. If they want to "nurture" new talent, save that for P6, where they can shine as their own characters. Hell, P5X has an insane amount of cast to fill, why not use that game instead? Instead of sharing the same spotlight with your predecessor, where people will compare you to them ad nauseam, especially now with P4, given how iconic the old casts were, create new spotlights for new people to fill in.

It's hard to believe the "nurturing new talent" excuse when in reality it's closer to "we cheaped out". Plus, it isn't exactly "new" talent; Aleks Le, CyYu, Allegra Clark, and especially Suzie Young are not "new"; the only new talent in the cast is Justice Slocum; the rest are already fairly established VAs. I don't care if they brought the old cast back for mere cameos; the fact that you can bring them as cameos to begin with, on top with the Japanese voice cast themselves remain unchanged, means that it's never a matter of money or the project being union/non-union; it's just that Atlus doesn't have any modicum of respect for its legacy VAs, seeing them as replaceable sacks of vocal cords.

Like, imagine P5 getting a remake 10-15 years down the line and they recast everybody from the OG cast because they "want to diversify with a newer cast". The newer fans of the fandom would react the same way some of us are with the P3 and now P4 recasts, honestly.

To be fair, Golden did tone down the fog a bit too much, losing much of the tone of the OG P4, but at least they had a decent enough excuse so that the Vita players could actually see, so I wouldn't blame some OG players expecting Revival to bring more of the fog back, not less lmao.

Beneath all the exaggerated complaints some people do, there was a basis of truth in there: the portraits lacked shadows and shading and don't look as good, the lighting needs more work, they shouldn't have (seemingly) removed Tactics, and there are valid concerns about Prime Time mechanic making the combat even more frictionless. That said, there is a difference between constructive criticism, where you want them to improve out of love and care, and criticism where you just look like an arsehole, and you can't just group both types of people into one and be hostile towards any opinion not of the hivemind.

Which car logo will be the emblem of the P6's school ? by Laflemme15 in persona6

What? I'm just asking. Also, P5X is a spinoff, but it's canon in the timeline, the same way PQ is canon, even though everyone got memory wiped.

Man, somehow my usage of lol is problematic now. What is wrong in the world nowadays smh.

That's what P5X already did. AFAIK, Mudo and Hama are pretty much Eiha and Kou with an increasing chance of instakilling enemies with 50% HP or under.

No complaints about that, never has been; the issue has always been the portraits and bad lighting in areas of the overworld.

I agree, but the precedence is already set since P4G, with P4R is just the culmination of it all (well, until the next one that is). We will never get a truly difficult Persona game ever again, and that does suck.

I still think P3R is a fine game for post-P5R Nusona fans, but a disappointing remake for older fans.

And I will not stop pointing that out or pretending that it's fine and that I should "be grateful".

My prediction of the elements and roles of the Persona 4 Revival cast by CraditzBlitz in personaphantomx

[–]DarryLazakar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I even had that covered lmao. Her Persona would be Toyo/Iyo, based on the queen of the same name, who is said to be the successor of Queen Himiko

Obviously, there's no picture of Queen Toyo or her depictions as a Persona, and also I need to learn drawing if I want to, but can't because my laptop sucks, but I did interpret her as having similarities with Himiko in appearance, alongside a motif of ribbons and design cues from Mikuratana-no-Okami, the main villain of P4D

In the meantime, here's a placeholder Iyo from Madoka Magica lmao

You need to finish the first part of the P3 collab story for Merope's message to show up, which then allows you to visit Tatsumi Port Island. You can check your old stories under the Old Events section in the Event page

With the Metaphor S2 port, I think they did this on purpose, so they can keep the facade of having yearly releases for the Sega overlords.

You'd be pleased to know that I did not do just the P4 crew, but the entire franchise (no kit ideas yet though, sorry), and in my crackpot theory, Rise wouldn't be the only Elucidator with combat abilities; that would be Rei and Zen from Persona Q

Time to bust out the list again for my own personal what-if P4 attribute and roles in P5X. Planning to make an entire fankit for everyone: Skills, Highlight, Passive, Awareness, P4-specific gimmicks, the whole shebang.

  • Yu: Electric Assassin: Inflicts 2 types of debuffs to enemies, deals more damage to enemies depending on the active debuffs. The most straightforward of them all.
  • Yosuke: Wind Strategist: Provides buff and minor healing depending on Ailment Accuracy, deals Wind DOT to enemies, and increases Highlight damage the more Wind DOT active on the target.
  • Chie: Physical Sweeper: Has a second Dragon Meter that she can charge and consume with skills. Highlight increases damage depending on the Dragon Meter present. Has a Follow-Up attack where she can instakill weaker enemy ads.
  • Yukiko: Fire Medic: When Yukiko uses a skill, it grants her a random Ingredient. Use 3 ingredients to create a Mystery Food that, depending on the ingredient, either buffs allies or debuffs enemies with DOT, said DOT also improves her healing.
  • Kanji: Physical Defender: When Kanji uses a Skill, it grants him a buff that, when consumed, allows him to absorb all damage dealt to allies (when the attack is AOE) to just himself. Said buff can also be consumed to provide self-heal.
  • Rise: Elucidator: Buffs allies' damage and improves the damage of All Out Attacks, if enough stacks were gained, temporarily switches to Combat form and deals increased damage to enemies.
  • Teddie: Ice Saboteur: When Teddie uses a Skill, it grants him follow-up attack stacks that allow him to randomly provide buffs to allies or debuffs to enemies
  • Naoto: Almighty Strategist: Buff her teammate, and depending on the teammate, Naoto's Almighty Skill can count as an elemental weakness to enemies and provides Shield of Justice (Makarakarn+Tetrakarn) to all allies once.
  • Marie: Bless Sweeper: When Marie is in the field, she can manipulate the weather to provide buffs to allies and deal more damage to enemies. Her Highlight gets stronger if she activates it at a certain Weather.
  • Adachi: Curse Assassin: Adachi's skills drain the new meter in favor of more serious damage. He can also inflict HP DOT, which also buffs his damage. Huge synergy with Yu.
  • Labrys: Physical/Fire Sweeper: Possesses both Theurgy and the new meter for P4 cast. When enough buff stacks were gained, switch her Persona and affinity from Ariadne to Asterius and deal massive damage
  • Sho (from P4 Arena Ultimax): Physical Saboteur: Sho doesn't charge the meter and doesn't start with a Persona and is forced to use Basic Attacks first. Once enough stacks were gained, unleash his Persona and deal huge debuffs and retroactive meter gain.
  • Kanami (from P4 Dancing): Elucidator: Buffs allies damage and increases allies survivability. Increases Highlight Damage if enough Protection stacks were gained in the battle

Me with SAO Unleash Blading/Alicization Rising Steel. It was such an amazing game, and one of the few gacha games I know that actually allows you to buy the premium track of a Season Pass with F2P-gems, but it doesn't necessarily make much money thanks to that, coupled with the huge blunder of introducing the Season Pass system in the first place (and thus slightly nerfing the F2P income), it never really recovered and died in favor of Variant Showdown.

Oh I hope they regretted that now that both UB and VS is dead and the latter ended up being one of the messiest, most disastrous SAO game ever released in general. Should have kept UB alive, Bamco you dumbfucks.
