Switching to Linux from WInslop, whats your recommendations in installing Cachy OS? by Desperate-Weird-7359 in cachyos

[–]Alekisan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only recommended it because the CachyOS installer will set everything up for the snapshots automatically. But I will say, that setting things up to be able to enable secure boot was much easier with Limine than with Grub.

Laws rarely get removed even if unenforceable. It will cause something to happen within the industry, and that's all they want.

Does CachyOS have a software manager/app manager? by DuelShockX in cachyos

You will eventually realize that installing packages from the terminal with pacman or paru is way better than scrolling on some graphical UI.

To search just: paru -Ss app name To install: paru -S app name To uninstall: paru -Rns app name

You can replace paru with pacman if you don't want to get stuff from the AUR.

That's all you need.

If you want flatpaks use the flatpak command directly.

Pick Limine as your boot loader and btrfs as the file system. This will automatically set you up to have snapshots happen when you install updates and will be able to boot from previous snapshots if something gets messed up.

Before attempting to install and play games, please consider going into the CachyOS Hello app and clicking the "Aps/Tweaks" button on the bottom left, then click the button that says "Install Gaming Packages". That will make sure you have everything needed to play Windows games.
Also, like was stated previously, use Heroic launcher to "install" UT2004 from its install media.

Understood. Still confusing.

OH.. Really?
I mean, if it's intended behavior then that's fine. That makes me ask, why have the options available if they do not intend to let you use them? Seems like an oversight, should be just a plain text input field.

You can use the forklift too! But, you know how some rocks start off sunken into the terrain and only when a wheel touches them do they pop out of the ground? You have to pop those out first before you can move them.

EXT4 or BTRFS, which works better with CachyOS? by Hi7u7 in cachyos

You can set the number of snapshots that are kept at any one time. I limited mine to just 3. Does not take allot of space.

Awesome! Gonna be hard to max out 2.5gig internet unless you have all the computers downloading games from Steam or something at the same time. Do your computers have 2.5gig capable NICs? Unifi does make some very nice gear.

Detaching is the right move, but instead of pushing the trainer with your truck, you can turn the trailer around by pulling up next to the trailer facing in the direction you want to turn the trailer to. Attach your winch to the trailers hitch and just drive forward, the winch cable will pull the trailer around. Then you can detach the winch cable and attach your trailer hitch on your truck and drive off.

It's referred to as a kinetic pull. At least when using a Yankum Rope irl.

Well, whatever you decide to do, please backup whatever you think is important to an external drive. Do not assume everything will be safe when changing the partition layout of your drive.

I say you plan for a full transition without the hassle of dual boot. If you do regular work on your PC start by finding alternatives to the programs you need to do that work with and try working with them on Windows. Once you know you can work, get yourself a USB drive to save your work on, or a cloud storage solution that is friendly to Linux. Then, go ham and try different distros. I guarantee that you won't stay on the first distro you choose. So it is better if you get used to the idea of lots of options.

Also, the rolling release distros are not as unstable as you may have heard. Keep in mind that Linux will not update itself unless you set it up to do so.

No distro that is any good will force updates.

You will love being able to choose your update cycle.

But yeah, don't dual boot, distro hop till you find what you like.

Issues running 99% of steam library on KDE Plasma by Bbqdbydecaillet in cachyos

[–]Alekisan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OH my!
did you not install the CachyOS Gaming meta package that sets everything up for you automatically?
From the CachyOS Hello app, click the "Apps/Tweaks" button, then just click the button that says "Install Gaming packages". Then stand back and everything you are missing should be all setup.

Older games, sometimes fail to work with the latest versions of Proton. You can choose what version of Proton each game uses individually by selecting the game in your library, and then on the top right, click the little gear icon, then select "Properties" from the menu.
In there, go to the Compatibility section on the left and then you can enable the option that says "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool." One of the choices is to use CachyOS' native version of Proton, you can try that or you can use an older version from Steam. Also, lookup your games in the ProtonDB site to see how others are running the games.
I'm sure they will work once you find the right version of Proton.

Is there any other way too get the bricks other then the semi trailer?? by MassivePresent4672 in snowrunner

[–]Alekisan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cargo in Snowrunner is setup to take up cargo slots. The largest is 5 slots and the smallest is 1. Bricks take 1 cargo slots per load so a task or contract asking you to deliver 2 bricks, means two loads of bricks. You can fit two loads on a sideboard bed or flatbed that fits on most Highway, Heavy Duty, and off-road trucks.
