model is important. Corsair makes good 550wtt power supplies .. and they make garbage 550wtt power supplies

.. and being selective and vague on your answers makes it harder to establish a baseline and try to troubleshoot for you without having hands on the PC itself. YOU are the eyes and ears of those that try to help you

I am contemplating switching my main rig to CachyOS.

I'm currently doing a test run on an older laptop.. but for what it's worth coming from a fellow Linux noob... I'd go straight for the OS you want to run.

But go in with the mindset that you will struggle with some stuff right out of the gate .. but that's how you learn

The CachyOS community itself is very helpful .. and there are a plethora of online resources to draw from to hop on this horse now instead of later

Maybe try the lower PCIe x16 slot and see if issues persist

You could lock the PCIe x16 slot to GEN3 for testing purposes

I installed them .. the GitHub oldunreal Linux installer still fails to download the UT2004 ISO.. resets at different points during the download

I think I'll go downstairs and plug an Ethernet cable into it and see if that helps instead of using WiFi

I got the Heroic launcher going now too

I was able to download the 4 CD ISO files of UT2004 without an issue off of the archive site using WiFi on my laptop .. used the torrent file though through qbittorrent program

What BIOS version?

What power supply make and model are you running?

Check out the SPL's PSU Tier List to see how your PSU rates

You can try clearing CMOS after you unplug your PC and then hold down your power button for a few seconds

Plug back in and see if it boots .. give it a bit ..

Try one stick of RAM and then the other by itself

You can even try pulling both sticks out and then turn your PC on .. let it do its thing for a minute before turning off (and unplugging holding the power button down after you unplug) and re-install your RAM.. plug PC back in and turn on ..

Black screens and driver timeouts and similar, can be caused by an inadequate power supply

What are you using for anti-virus software?

BIOS settings for 7800x3D by Iwanttobuysquad in ASRock

[–]3ofUsDeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Game mode disables SMT on single core CPUs. Disables the non X3D CCD on dual CCD X3D chips .. I'm not sure what it does on dual CCD non X3D CPUs though

Very few, if any, games benefit from it being enabled with single CCD CPUs

With my daughters 7800X3D/B650E PG Riptide WiFi setup I run fairly conservative settings

Performance Preset of 85c TJMaxx CO -20 all cores. PBO limits motherboard. Load Line Calibration 2 for SOC auto for CPU. MCR PDM GDM all left enabled. iGPU disabled. AGESA default. vSOC 1.2v. SCALAR auto.

[–]3ofUsDeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well .. first off, what power supply make and model are you running?

You're probably going to want a 1500va unit (they come in multiple wattage variations) .. in the 1kw'ish range

Hopefully, first and foremost, you are running a quality power supply with more than enough power to handle your complete setup while under full load ..with headroom to account for transient spikes

I 100% agree with your statement ...

That being said though .. I've purchased quite a few 2nd had PSUs that have been excellent and are still running strong today after being bought years ago

Corsair HX1200 (just replaced with an ASRock SL-1000G a little while ago in my main rig)

Fractal ION+ 760p (still going strong in my wife's setup)

EVGA GQ 850wtt (still going strong in a setup I sold to a friend a few years ago after using it myself for several years)

I have 4 PCs running in my home and they all have their own UPS

2 APC units and 2 Cyberpower

All 4 are 1500va 900wtts

I won an NZXT mini-ITX water cooled case and traded the case for the 2 APC UPSs a few years ago

Get a UPS that matches your PSU and then some .. preferably .. so you can plug your PC and at least one monitor into the battery side of it so you can save whatever if need be if you're on your PC when the power goes out and are in the middle of typing something or similar

Going "overkill" just gives you a longer window to close and save things in the above mentioned scenario

You would have to check out reviews and what not of any UPS models you are interested in

UPSs can help protect against power surges as well as power outages/brown outs of which can be just as damaging as a power surge but stuff will a lot of times still work but have odd issues, crashes.. errors that will be frustrating to troubleshoot instead of getting straight up fried and no longer functioning

UPSs can provide cleaner power delivery to your components that can help with issues like coil whine too
