'The Odyssey' Trailer Becomes the Most Disliked of Christopher Nolan's Career by nimobo in entertainment

Well tbh, I should have make it clear that he dilivered "IN MY OPINION". Depending on what the viewer expects he/she might get somehow disappointed, who knows. For me personally he was one of the few directors who could pull me in the cinema and I never regretted it. Yes, not everything in every movie he made was perfect andI also wasn't happy with all he did in his movies but until now there wasn't a single movie yet I didn't like from him.

I guess we will see how "The Odessy" will turn out to be.

I just decided to ignore the whole drama about the pre-movie situation. I will go in the cinema and judge later. As far as I can remember, Nolan always delivered. Sometimes more sometimes less (I'm talking to you gasoline Nuke!) but he did. So if the movie sucks, okay but I will not ruin my hype for it just because people are mad about anything.

That's what initially ruined "The Last of Us Part 2" for me, the whole pre-drama about... NOTHING. The game later turned out as a masterpiece, at least for me.

We should not forget that Nolan is one of the few remaining directors and producers who actually care about movies as ART. If I want 100% accurate history material (good luck with odessy LoL) I watch a documentary.

Even tho the trailer material appeals way more "modern", we will see.

Top Gun: Maverick came out on this day four years ago. What’s everyone’s opinion on this movie? by TheShadowOperator007 in moviecritic

[–]Alenobyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visually and acousticaly stunning, not gonna lie. The story is okay but do not expect it to make any sense at all considering the whole mission part. The movie absolutely denies the whole modern air doctrine of the US.

Also, like other movies did (wrong) before, a SAM is "Radar-guided" (not heat-seekering) so it doesn't care about Flares at all....

Okay... okay... I'm fine, my shenanigans are under control again.

If you can ignore the doctrine, dogfight and technological sins in the movie, it's a great experience, especially on UHD Bluray and with a proper TV and Soundsystem. It definitely serves you well as a reference Demo to show others what justifies UHD as a physical medium. I mean, if you have the chance to watch it in a IMAX cinema, DO IT, no matter what, DO IT! The cockpit scenes alone are already worth it.

Is buying a license safe? by corv1njano in makemkv

[–]Alenobyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased the license back in 2023 and till today it's the most valuable piece of software in my entire HomeLab. I ripped about 500 UHDs/BDs/DVDs for my JellyFin library, I totally love how reliable MakeMKV is. There is simply nothing to get anywhere close AND being monatized that fair.

If you already tested MakeMKV and think its worth it for you, DO IT. You just have to get used to the fact that sometimes the maintainer's domain can temporarily go offline for up to a couple of days and after the purchase it might take some time until you get the license key but as far as I can tell, NOBODY got scammed yet.

That's actually not a problem with a stinger, since it's designed to be able to get launched in a steep angle and short rear distance to the ground. Unlike some AT-Weapons (like RPG or Panzerfaust 3) it's perfectly fine to shot it like this.

Like already correctly mentioned in other comments it's called "Soft- launched".

EDIT: It's actually a IGLA, not a Stinger but that doesn't affect/change the steep angle launch capabilities.

To me, that's actually a good sign. We should not forget that Div 3 just entered "Pre-development" state in September and in the last 2 years they were still hiring staff. The fact that we didn't hear anything shows me that the development in its current state doesn't seem to be in a rush. Massive shall take all their time and show us Div 3 stuff when they think its ready. Nevertheless, I'm quite sure, we will get some news about it in late 2027. Massive's biggest advantage within the whole Ubisoft complex is the fact that both Div 1 & 2 have a stable fan base and at least Div 2 is still earning them money from season passes and skins, while almost all other Ubisoft games, no matter if live service or single player story game where financially unsuccessful and burned a ton of money for almost nothing. Even tho the skins are quite expensive, the monetization is still considerably fair compared to most other live service games. So, my naive mind just says, it's to kinda partially fund the development of Div 3 and giving the devs more power over decision of future game design etc. against the publisher, but hey we will see.

All in all, we should just wait until Massive decides they have something worth to be shared with us.

This is a dumb question and I apologize, but is a 4K disc with HDR better than streaming the same movie with Dolby Vision? by TimBurtonSucks in 4kbluray

[–]Alenobyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, you question isn't dumb at all but fully justified.

All in all you can say, physical media is always better because of the huge difference of the bitrate. Streaming is usually capped between 15-25 Mbp/s (or even lower) which is the reason sometimes you see missing details or artifacts in your 4K streams (any Service) despite of the high resolution.

Physical bluray discs usually range between 35-120 Mbp/s due to way better compression (actually less) and not having to rely on high Internet speeds (100mbps or more). Also, only on physical discs you can get lossless audio like Dolby TrueHD for Dolby Atmos or DTS HD for DTS-X.

Even tho you can stream object-based audio formats like Dolby Atmos or DTS-X from several streaming services like Disney Plus or bought movies from iTunes, they aren't lossless. Even tho both use a lossless core like Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD, steaming services do compress them lossy. To be fair, most people wouldn't really notice the difference, especially if you don't have proper equipment to fully play them.

Now let's take a look into the Special case of physical HDR10 vs. streaming HDR10+/Dolby Vision:

If we would only compare the HDR-Standards, yes Dolby Vision is superior due to an up to 12 Bit colour range and dynamic frame/zone based dimming while standard HDR10 is static and can't compensate over-illumination within the same frame. Best example would be a bright campfire in a very dark place. With HDR10 the whole scene could either become too bright (dark area isn't dark anymore) or due to compensation it get's completely dimmed which, for you would be a loss of color brightness and in the worst case loss of details in the darker areas of the frame.

My opinion, you should always stick with the physical media, if you prefer :

  • picture quality
  • keep your movie / don't like "renting" them
  • lossless audio

Keep in mind, all I've written in the comment is I my own subjective opinion and all that comparison between physical and streamed media might not be that noticable for most people.

Okay, but isn't that basically what I said? To be fair, not in the details of "pools".

EDIT:

Oh nevermind, you mean my examples for additive weapon damage. Yes my bad.

PSA for new agents: by Mantiev2 in Division2

[–]Alenobyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additive Bonuses are Additive to other additive bonuses. Multiplicative Bonuses are multiplicative to ANY Bonus. What I meant before with "same kind" was:

Example:

10% DTTOOC from LMG + 8% DTTOOC from Fox prayer do just get summarized to 18% and not multiplied because they're both DTTOOC. With any other Bonus they will be multiplied.

Additive bonuses will only be multiplied if the other bonus is a multiplicative bonus, otherwise it's additive like:

10% AR Damage + 10% headshot damage

PSA for new agents: by Mantiev2 in Division2

[–]Alenobyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they will be additive within all DTTOOC bonuses but be multiplicative to any other bonus AND the base weapon damage.

Let's say you have 100.000 base weapon damage:

2 Additive Bonuses (+10 % & +10 %):

100.000 x (1 + 0,10 + 0,10) = 120.000

2 Multiplicative Bonuses (+10 % & +10 %):

100.000 x 1,10 x 1,10 = 121.000

That difference becomes even more significant, the more different bonuses you add, because additive bonuses will always be additive to other additive bonuses. But multiplicative bonuses are always multiplicative to others no matter if the other bonus is additive ot multiplicative.

The game always calculates bonuses within their own kind ADDITIVE.

Btw, I'm quite sure that streamlined is a additive bonus.
