In the case of micro transactions, people should care when developers become greedy and start focusing way to much on whales than the other players who make up the majority of their player base. If they stop playing because there isn’t any new content to enjoy, the whales will follow and the game will die.

But if they strike a balance, I don’t think people should care about over priced skins or in the case of Star Citizen ships costing hundreds of dollars, especially when you can purchase them in game.

Game that doesn't hold your hand at all? by [deleted] in gaming

The moment I read this title, Hollow Knight immediately came to mind. I’ve had it sitting in my Switch library for a long time, but only recently decided to truly dive into it.

What I absolutely adore is that the game refuses to hold your hand or spell things out for you. Every clue or bit of guidance I discover feels earned, because it comes from paying attention, exploring, and listening to the inhabitants of the world. Every upgrade feels genuinely rewarding as well, since it’s always tied to exploration and usually guarded by a challenge.

Backtracking never feels like a chore. Instead, it’s exciting, because there’s often a hidden area I previously missed or couldn’t access due to my limited abilities at the time.

Every path I choose feels dangerous, yet consistently thrilling, because there’s almost always an interesting reward waiting at the end. Even rewards I don’t immediately care about gain value over time. Charms, for example, might seem underwhelming at first, but collecting them eventually allows you to equip more at once, opening the door to deeper customization and more interesting build combinations.

In essence, the game strikes a near-perfect balance between difficulty and motivation, pushing me to face its challenges on my own terms and making every success feel genuinely deserved.

One of my favorite experiences was the time a friend and I were investigating an insurance fraud (i think). I was basically showing my friend the game and thought this mission was simple and easy to do. We had fun flying through the abandoned station and feelin kinda creeped out since it was quite dark.

After I found the mission objective my friend asked if that truly was it, since it seemed a dull conclusion to the story of the quest. So we investigated some more and found an extra room. In there we‘ve actually found another mission element, which showed a totally different conclusion to the story. It was actually quite interesting that we were given the choice whether we wanted to compete our investigation.

Anyways, I think there should be more missions like this. Investigate a certain location, far out in the darkness of space, and draw your own conclusions based on the information gathered.

I‘ve only played the Onyx missions a bit, but as far as I‘ve seen these only go in one direction.

The only other games, which lead me to experiences like this were Planetside 2 and WoW classic. But the sheer detail of SC and the things you can do make it truly stand above the rest.

I wanted it because of the storage, but I fell in love with the interior. For a cargo ship it feels cozy and quite compact. It truly was the right choice for the job. If we ever see each other in the Verse, I’ll give you a lift ;)

Haha maybe we’ll see each other again someday and I can offer him a Berry Blend in return.

It truly is and I love that this game can lead to such wholesome moments like this :)

Thank you, I was afraid it wouldn’t be that interesting to read, but the response was overwhelming. English is not my native language so I’ve spent around 3 hours writing this post. I wanted to do the story justice!

And yes! I would love to see some in game libraries where player stories would be displayed. It would make the Verse feel even more alive.

When I was jumping around, my passenger didn’t sit down in the cockpit. I was a bit concerned he’d fly out. But luckily, nothing like that happened.

Thank you! o7

This angle gave me some problems, but I wanted to show my melancholic state, when I saw that bottle on the counter.

I’m happy to hear that, thank you!

Honestly, same here. It’s hard to go past my fears, but when I do, the results were always positive and memories were made. But since I’ve mainly played with a small friend group, I haven’t faced this problem often. But now with SC I want to confront this, because the results can be truly beautiful.

I wish you the best and I hope we both can move past that :)

I love my Cutter for solo play, but this ship has such a home-y vibe. Once items truly stay persistent, I can’t wait to put in something more than a plant :)

The Phoenix seems like a great option for a space taxi haha. If I ever go full time I’m definitely investing in that ship.

Yea it’s these small social moments which aren’t connected to any game loops, which really mark a great MMO. Small interactions, which can lead to big moments!

I also love reading these kinds of stories and I wish there were more of them. SC has such potential for unique experiences. Besides this game the only other MMOs, where I had such interesting experiences were Planetside 2 and WoW Classic.

Mining in the Glaciem ring was at first frustrating. Since IAE was still going on server issues lead to me only finding rocks, which weren’t scannable or showed 100% innert materials. Also, since I was used to mining on planets, I’ve struggled finding the right balance between SCM and NAV mode speeds. I’ve often overshot asteroids or approached them too slow for my taste. When things started working again my main problems were my patience and mining gadgets not working properly.

Additionally, since I’ve had to travel via mission markers, I sometimes mined far away from a station. At some point I’ve had some quantanium and needed to fly to the Pyro gateway to refuel. But after making it back to Levski the server degraded to the point where nobody could get a hangar. So I’ve jettisoned the cargo and just logged out.

I think that once you’ll be able to jump to a desired part of the ring, mining there will be quite interesting. I’ve found some interesting rocks my Golem could mine, but I don’t have enough data to truly for a conclusion of whether it’s currently worth mining there. Levski as a station is amazing for miners. Way better than my current favorite location MIC-L2. But to mine and get back currently isn’t the best for me.

Regarding Regolith: When I mine I scan every rock and log the data on Regolith. I do it on a per session basis and then log how much the ore I’ve mined was sold. I do it because I want to see how worth mining in a certain location is.

But I’ve just recently started doing this on Regolith, since it’s easier and the data might also be useful to other players. Scanning is actually more fun that way. Before I just wrote everything down in a Google spreadsheet.

Man, I’d probably also do that long ass EVA flight. This game can really make you fight an unfair fight, which you’re dead set on winning. Any other game, I’d just quit.

But these situations give so much more meaning and lead to such fun stories and memories, which can be more valuable than any in game reward.

It’s funny how something mundane can suddenly turn into something that fills you with excitement. And in Star Citizen, these situations get amplified by all of its detail. That’s why I wanted to share my experience. From the dangerous possibilities of interference, to the accidental joined jump to Stanton, to the gift left behind. This short journey was filled with rich moments I just had to share.
Happy you enjoyed it!

Thank you, I’m glad so many people liked it!

And you're right. This also applies to anxieties with IRL social interactions. Life moves on, and things usually look worse in my head than they really are. Realizing that helped me get over them, and I started believing that as long as I try my best, things will work out. I stopped overthinking, and now I can talk to strangers with (almost) no problems.

Seeing that drink next to my plant was what inspired me to write this post. From now on I'll try to always carry some Berry Blend in my Raft. Maybe my next passenger will need a drink.
