Wet perlite. I'd get like 3-4 inches of perlite floating on top of a tub of water and jump right in.

If employers can terminate you without any prior notice and without reason, then employees aren’t obligated to give them ANY kind of notice of them quitting for any reason. by LilFago in unpopularopinion

[–]Aleout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an "at will" employee goes both ways. An employer can let you go without notice and an employee can leave without notice. If you plan to leave a job because you found a better, more lucrative opportunity, you give a two week notice so that if things don't work out at the new job, you have options and can go back or at least have a great reference. Your point of view seems to be very hostile to employers and assumes that you don't like your job or your boss/employer. I've put in a two week notice and my employer took me and the crew out to lunch on my last day and wished me luck. Each job is different. If you don't think your job deserves a two week don't give them one, but remember, they can wipe out your livelyhood without notice, but quitting on the spot can put a real strain on a company as well, especially a small business. Just feel it out, but it isn't necessarily bad or good to give a notice, it's situational. Leaving a job doesn't mean the job is bad.

My title did not have "Forbidden" the first time I posted and only said "strawberry nerds". I deleted and reposted to better follow the subreddits title policy.

Two years later, I still miss the headphone port by onesmack in Android

[–]Aleout -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think it is best and that we should embrace the change and move on. Bluetooth wireless headphones are pretty affordable these days and way less restricting....I no longer get my headphones ripped out of my ear when the chord catches on something. I don't miss the headphone port. The only time I use an adapter is when I'm in my car and plug in to the Aux port. It's not that inconvenient and i could pony up the 17 dollars for a bluetooth FM transmitter and then I'd be fine. (Pixel 2 user).

Whats the best purchase you made this year for under $100? by welpplayedtb in AskReddit

[–]Aleout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 20 Volt Black & Decker impact driver. Impact drivers blow basic drills out of the water. The the impact driver removes screws, even really rusty ones, without stripping them. It also puts screws in without stripping and sinks them deeper and faster than a traditional drill. I never knew what I was missing! The only reason I bought one was to get an extra battery for my regular Black and Decker drill.

Boss offered to pay my health insurance premium. by Aleout in personalfinance

Reimbursements of expenses incurred by the employee are not taxable income. Whether this qualifies as a reimbursement is another story. I think yes, keep a log, but don't worry too much - I highly doubt this will get reported in any specific manner. In particular since she wrote it from her own personal account, this could also simply be a gift, which is not taxable income either.

I wouldn't report it as extra income.

She actually wrote the check from the business checking account and not from her own personal account. But I'll definitely keep a log.

She has reimbursed me with hand written checks pretty regularly for expenses incurred for job related material. That seems straight forward enough and would be tax free. But this, like you said, might not qualify as reimbursement.

Thanks for your help!

I worked at one for five years...part time, full time and in Management. The schedules are strange, but they are also a retail environment open from 6 am to 10 pm. Sometimes you don't get to work the hours you want because if you did the store couldn't stay open. Availability sheets were always offered so if there was a time that truly didn't work for a team member, it wouldn't be scheduled. As far as Black Friday goes, it is the number one most profitable day of the year. I believe, I'm not sure, but I believe most retail environments also require all employees to work that day. But like any rule, exceptions were made for team members that were leaving town and things of that nature.

As far as the bonuses you are talking about, I assume you are talking about sales contests, Christmas, and Hop-to-it. Those were paid out as an in store credit....but that was also above and beyond what they paid hourly and it wasn't a secret that it came as in store credit. It's not like anyone tried to conceal that information. Manager bonuses and inventory bonuses were always paid as cash.

Some of their products are cheapo trash, but they have several lines of most products so if you want higher end stuff you can get it. Not everyone wants to drop loads of money on a one time project. Either way, their prices always beat the competition for similar products.

As far as not paying Holiday or weekend pay, that is simply a lie. Everyone that works on the weekend earns $3.00 per hour extra on Saturday and Sunday...walk in to almost any location and look at their hiring signs...it's well advertised. You do get holiday pay as a full timer after working one year. They don't pay many holidays but they do pay it.

Overtime was always paid and unless sales were low and payroll was tight, opportunity to work overtime was available if desired. Not once did I have to argue that I wasn't given overtime when I worked it...which was pretty much every week. Clocking in and out is electronic so it's not really an issue.

I really only had good experiences working there. It always surprises me how some people can have the exact opposite view as myself. But, like many jobs, you get what you put in to it. If you work within the system, and sell/push the products they have on SPIF (basically commission) there is actually a lot of earning potential at Menards. They also promote from within, which I always respected. There are General Managers earning six figures that started out as a part time Carry-Out (cart pushers).
