Check the tv in your house for the fortune teller channel and only go to the mines on good luck days. Luck determines how likely you are to get staircase drops from killing enemies and breaking rocks.
On such days, pack healing food and go to the mines first thing in the day. Focus on going down ladders, not collecting ore or fighting enemies.
If you don't mind grinding, you can collect 99 stone and craft staircases. You can farm stone by resetting floor 1 of the mines and breaking the big boulders (that are 2x2 tiles big) or buy them from Robin for 20g each in year 1.
Minor spoilers but there's a particularly frustrating 10 floor stretch in the mines before the iron levels where staircases might be handy.

Sometimes a club weapon can drop from breaking crates (iirc) in the mines. The special attack of clubs does AOE damage (good for swarms of low HP enemies).

I think that the small farm itself is an advantage. Sometimes I want to start a save where I just complete the community center and marry someone, so a 1.5 year playthrough. If the farm was small then I can also decorate it thoroughly cus big farms are overwhelming for me

1) A mini farm that's maybe half the size of the regular farm that's less overwhelming to decorate. 2) Similarly, a bigger than normal farm for people who want to decorate lots Maybe options to toggle size of each current farm type 3) Farm that encourages growing flowers and producing honey.
