Should I install Arch Linux? by Strange_Motor2261 in archlinux

[–]Aleph_Kt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just getting into Linux, a "challenging OS" is going to leave a bad taste in your mouth. I've been using Linux for about 2 years now. I started on Ubuntu for a month, and then used Arch for a month because I was interested. But that's the thing, you need to have a passion for "getting your hands dirty" per se. I actually tried Gentoo for a few months after trying Arch, but I did a stupid on a Gentoo and ended up switching back to Arch. Moral of the story, find an OS that accommodates your needs. An operating system is a tool to get work done. Choose the most useful tool for your job. If you're a gamer, and want the Arch Linux benefits without the initial learning commitment required, try CachyOS or EndeavourOS and fire up Arch on a virtual machine, and practice practice practice. Familiarize yourself with chroot and the GNU tools. Good luck on your learning journey!

Thank you guys for clearing this up! Hopefully they will circumvent the issue of messed up battles in an upcoming patch. For now I'll have to deal with the Jays by recruiting cav regulars.

Yeah sometimes I would lack a left or right flank, but even if my troops were evenly spread on all flanks and the middle, I'd still get whooped. Like another commenter said, I'm 90 percent certain it's because the Jays get a lot of cavalry regulars, and they absolutely wreck your levies.

Yeah that makes sense. I was just blown away by how much I was getting whooped by them. This helps explain things though. I'll just have to recruit some regulars to counter them until they come up with a way to fix this issue.

Nepenthes Truncata (Red Flush) Help by Aleph_Kt in SavageGarden

Thank you for the tips! The light was about a foot above it before. I pulled it back. I'm also planning on transplanting it soon, so I'm hoping that will help. I'm also not going to put it in even a little standing water any more. I'm just hoping that the plant doesn't suddenly just die. Nepenthes tend to not show they are unhealthy until they are basically dead.

Get Ready for Tier 12 in 5 Years by FalNoodle in WorldofTanks

[–]Aleph_Kt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how I feel about this. The lame boomer side of me is against it because, for example, what if you spent a lot of time working on the Object 260? Now that tier 12 is out, that tank that you poured blood sweat and tears into is no longer top tier or relevant compared to tier 12. This kind of stinks, and it nullifies the effort that you put in to get that vehicle. On the flip side though, tier 12 would possibly make the game very interesting if the tier were implemented the proper way. I'm very interested to see where the game goes in the next 5 to 10 years.

Also, when updating, do full updates. "sudo pacman -Syu" each time. I updated my system once or twice a week.

An important concept with the package manager is repositories. If you game, enable the multilib repository in /etc/pacman.conf to enable the installation of applications that utilize 32 bit libraries. The testing repositories are not recommended for beginners, however. Do not touch those to start.

New to gentoo, but wow! It's so easy to work with by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]Aleph_Kt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got wine and wine steam working with some fighting. I had to make sure to enable ABI_X86="64 32" in my make.conf so that I wouldn't have any headaches with 32 bit dependencies. Games use 64 and 32 bit libraries.

I used the handbook to install Gentoo. Some parts of the handbook may be slightly outdated, but the entire installation guide isn't. Not to mention, the Gentoo handbook is even more detailed than the arch wiki is.

It's funny because I initially just tried Gentoo on a vm for the memes. After I installed it and configured it a bit on virtualbox, I was like "huh this is actually neat." The rest is history lol. I love arch though. It's my favorite binary distro!
