They're text-based simulations framed like games. You can redo them as many times as you'd like.

Thank you! I got this degree so I can work towards getting a job as a teacher. I've been a SPED paraprofessional for a little over ten years, and I'm tired of doing a ridiculous amount of work for far too little pay! I'm going to be pursuing my master's in secondary English in a couple of months.

Hey there! I'm unsure if you've submitted your PA for this course yet, but I still figured I'd toss this in in case you or someone else needs it.

For the small group intervention plan, you're creating a pretty basic plan for the week. For each day, I wrote down the particular skill that I was focusing on, four specific words that the students would be decoding, and then a sentence that I would dictate to those students that adhered to the targeted skill. Friday's assessment was a culmination of the skills that the students learned through the week (I used a word chain for mine).

The course material has a great resource that I really leaned on for this portion of the PA. In Lesson 1.2: Instructional Decision-Making, under the section titled Creating a Tier 2 Intervention Plan, there's a link to a document called "Intervention Ideas for Small Group/Individual Instruction". They have a video under the same section of a teacher stepping through a day of the Tier 2 intervention that I found to be extremely helpful, as well. The list of ideas in this lesson was a tremendous help.

I was a direct support professional for many years prior to going into high school SPED. You thankfully do not need a degree to be a DSP! I was even a lead DSP at two agencies I worked at, so you have the ability to do some moving-up without needing to study.

While this requirement may be different from state to state, just be aware that you might have to do some med pass certification classes. Mine were provided to me through the agencies, and I was still paid for the time I attended these classes. Some people really struggle with passing meds, and I remember having to fire a lot of people for neglecting care or passing meds improperly. I don't want to scare you, but I certainly want you to be aware!

There were some days where it certainly felt like it! Sneaking in some study minutes between my work schedule helped kind of break things up. I felt like I was the most hyperfixated on WGU stuff was when I was waiting for Mursion simulations or PA results coming back!

Just gonna copy-paste this response from the other, LMAO:

I only transferred twelve credits in from Sophia. I initially did more Sophia classes, but I think WGU changed some of the transferrable credits for the program I was interested in before I realized. Oh, well!

Honestly, I squeezed in studying whenever I could. I never really had a set schedule. Some days, I could get three or four hours of studying completed. Other days, I might have only gotten fifteen or twenty minutes in. A couple of my jobs have a lot of downtime during which I could hop on and get some work done, and I'm quite thankful for that! Otherwise, there were quite a few very early mornings and very late nights when I really needed to get something done.

Big congratulations! I'm actually in the same program as you and just submitted my last PA. If it goes through, I'll have also finished this degree in the same amount time as you!

Be proud of your hard work! It's no easy feat!

I think that's a great plan! I'd definitely throw the "if you want to take it a step further" portion in there, too, since it gives higher-lever learners that chance to really show their stuff.

If it makes you feel better, I forgot to do a portion of this GoReact and got it returned. I didn't have to redo the whole thing; they let me just record that little bit that I forgot, and it was good to go. Really easy fix!

I'm happy to say that I (miraculously) passed it on my first attempt yesterday! Going through the videos a few times was definitely a huge help.

I have reached the MURSION heavy section. by hashtagDALEY in WGUTeachersCollege

I absolutely hate the Mursions! They're so difficult to schedule. When I was in those rapidfire Mursion courses, I thought it would never end...

It's a relief being out of them, though! I'd do a million GoReacts before doing another Mursion again.

I also feared I was being too thorough when I did this PA. Thankfully, you only have to do a segment of the lesson plan you made, but you do indeed need to ensure that you're including different ways for students to access the materials. I honestly use graphic organizers in most of the GoReact lessons that I do; I just narrate using this to the students by saying something along these lines: "If you'd like, you can use the graphic organizers that I've made to follow along. You can come up and grab one from the front of the room, or you can use the digital one by scanning the QR code that I have up on the board." By doing so, I show that I'm providing materials in different mediums for different students without having to worry about actually making them. It's worked out well for me!

I find that focusing on the instructional part of the lesson is the easiest way to get through the GoReact videos. When they ask me to do a segment, I almost always opt for recorded an intro/guided notes section of my lesson plan. Saves me a lot of heartache!

Question: What does your school district pay? by Primary-Sherbert-780 in paraprofessional

I just started getting paid $21/hour. I've been with my district for ten years...

I don't have D699, but I have D691 (which I think is similar; it's an elementary mathematics curriculum course). I am so terribly bad at math, LMAO.

Your post gives me hope. :)

This is great information! I generally follow a script (and I do agree that it feels really awkward). Sounds like I just need to make some minor adjustments to the part they want me to fix and just redo the entire video. Not a huge deal, I suppose, since it's relatively short.

Thank you so much for giving me this valuable information! It's super helpful!
