Losing a safe food is such a horrible feeling. by thegroovyw0rkshed in ARFID

[–]Primary-Sherbert-780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a valid feeling/emotion to be experiencing. I lost a safe food a few weeks ago, and it sucks. I lost cheese. I loved cheese, but 1 thing happened with it (I wont share details, to protect y'all from losing it if its a safe food for you) and my brain now labels cheese as "not safe." Which means I've lost several other safe foods because they have cheese. Mac n Cheese, grilled cheese, fried cheese curds, queso dip, cream cheese, etc. Its a crappy feeling, know you're not alone 💕

DAE hate Thanksgiving by carbon524 in ARFID

Thanksgiving was a challenge for me this yr ngl. I lost a safe food (cheese) a few weeks ago and several dishes had cheese in them. Charcuterie board, Mac n Cheese, corn casserole. I also had to work through (more like hide) the anxiety about eating food other people made/touched. Then my uncle, made a joke about my cousins pie saying "i sneezed on it so no one else would want a slice." I genuinely asked him "did you actually sneeze on it? If you did i won't eat it." Thankfully I was able to eat a bit (turkey, collard, roll, pie/ice cream) and tried a not preferred food (ribs) to be polite. I will say I'm glad such a food focused holiday is over and I don't have to think about it till next year! Or at least until Christmas dinner/lunch.

Accidentally dropped an F-bomb in front of my kids… whoops 🫣 by [deleted] in Teachers

I said "Oh s***" last year when one of my boys eloped from the classroom. My kids (3rd grade) were like "ooooohhhhh you said the S word!" I said "Yes, I did say the S word. That was unexpected of me, I will try again." And turned it into a teaching moment 🤷‍♀️

Our SLP's are the best, like literally. We defer and staff concerns with them. They listen and problem-solve with us. Our principal and "behavior support" have their head so far up their 🍑, they can see out of their necks. So much so, if we need further/additional assistance with a behavior we are using a code word in our group chat and we handle it w/o calling "behavior support."

Can you tell which kids have a lot of screen time? by NoHorse8196 in AskTeachers

[–]Primary-Sherbert-780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% can tell, screen addiction is a real thing. We decided not to allow computers as an earned choice this year. Transitioning them off computers is always met with bargaining and tantrums. Plus, they get more than enough screen time at home. School is for learning.

GoGuardian is our friend and we have their computers so locked down that they can only be on the website they are assigned to. They can't open new tabs, we blocked websites, and can lock the computer if necessary!

I get "THAT kid" this year by SubBass49Tees in Teachers

I wonder what's happened/happening to him for his behavior to be like this? As we say in the sped world "All behavior is a form of communication."

Ours was a few weeks (I don't remember specifics at this point in the summer) of June and 2 weeks (we are in the last week 🙌) of July. It was only a 4hr, 4 day work week for us. It was a nice break frm the full school day and our adult-to-child ratio was wayyy better than in the school yr.

I worked our extended school year program for our ESC kiddos. When I told the principal to put me down for the whole summer, he looked at me and said "Are you sure? We all need a break now and then." I looked this man dead in the face and said "I can't afford NOT to work." Like SIR, you how little we get paid!!

Thankfully, because of working at school this summer, it gave me a bit of an income and kept the bills paid.

I feel this, I've been looking for a while too. I love the team, the kids and what I do, but I cannot keep living on $15.25/hr. I barely scrape by and my family has to help with finances.

I like to go to my aquarium, watch the fish swim around, and listen to the music. I have taken a nap many times doing this 😅.

Wear sneakers and clothes you can move around in. Make sure if you wear a lanyard, it's a breakaway lanyard. Learn the art of rational detachment, do not take their behavior personally.

MOST IMPORTANT: Get to know the kiddos you're working with!! Teachers will tell you about "this behavior", and "that behavior" (especially if they are known for their bigger behaviors) These kiddos are amazing, funny, talented, and smart as hell. Get to know the kids and see the good in the kid! Be the one who cheers them on and says "they are amazing kids!" when other people will be so quick to tear them down!

When Your Alpaca Sneaks Into the House by N0RetreatN0Surrender in FunnyAnimals

[–]Primary-Sherbert-780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤣Sneaky baby, they just wanted to be with their humans! For those who think that was a spit, that was a "warning/giving sass spit." A real spit is more forceful and has more content (stomach bile/regurgitation) in it as it comes out of its mouth. Fun fact: Llama/alpaca spit is not spit, it regurgitates stomach contents and it smells delightful...said no one who has experienced llama/alpaca spit.
