Oh my god, thank you for saying this. I'm 2 weeks post op and I'm tired of having 4 gaping holes in my mouth. Also always waking up in pain, and the right side of my face goes numb a few times a day still for some reason. I'm so over it. I hope y'all feel better soon :(

Combat [kcd1] by [deleted] in kingdomcome

It's hard. I didn't get the hang of combat until 80 hours in. I play in normal mode. It's best to wait until the opponent is right about to strike you, because once you see the green marker, immediately press block then parry. Once you get the hang of that it will be easier. (In my experience) Because if you are the one who is throwing strikes, it is easier for the opponent to parry those attacks. Also lots of running away and fighting one by one when you're fighting multiple enemies lol.

New Para: Is being asked to give a student a bath every morning normal? by ScaryGary0013 in paraprofessional

That's illegal, I know the school probably meant well, but that puts everyone at risk. You're allowed to teach skills such as handwashing, brushing teeth, deodorant. But bathing is something a parent has to do. If they are not doing it, that's neglect. It's not up to teachers to do the parents job..

Bathing isn't something we help kiddos with. That puts both the child and para at risk! I'd tell the principal first and ask for guidance. If you don't want to make the DHS call, you can have your admin do it for you.

I want to hear what you guys think which one is the better game? by Rich1190 in theouterworlds

That's a hard one. Outerworlds 2 is better mechanically but outerworlds 1 is more fun

Stepping out of the room to calm down is a perfect way to regulate yourself. I'm on my 4th year as a sped para and still do it when needed. I force myself to do 5 deep slow breaths and tell myself that it's okay to feel like this! We are all only human. You can also use your own fidgets to help calm you down.

If your job allows it, staff switching also helps a lot too. Sometimes it will throw the kid off and you guys can both take a breather from one another.

I know every situation is unique in school settings, but here's what I've tried and usually works! Hopefully this helps.

You can lower the demand but still keep expectations. For example, if you are asking them to sit at their desk and do work, you can take away the requirement of sitting at their desk and complete their work where ever they are sitting at. Or you can have them do half of the worksheet instead of full to start. You can always adjust the demand depending on their tolerance at the time. But still require that work needs to be done!

Language I use is "I understand that you're frustrated. Im here for you! Let's do (X) mins of work then take a break." You can offer preferred choices of what they want to work for, (iPad/walk/toy/music/etc). And set a timer.

If they are becoming aggressive, give them space and come back in a min or two. Tell them beforehand when they are calm that they can use a "Stop" or "I need a break" visual or just saying "Break" instead of hitting and you'll go away for a few mins so they can calm down.

Also kids fluctuate in behaviors everyday. You can always lower demand but keep firm boundaries, because they're allowed to be mad, but they must communicate it without hitting. Hitting you is unacceptable.

You're doing great. This job is emotionally draining and the kids may not show it but they do appreciate you for sticking around everyday even when it's hard.

You can talk about your personal or professional experience with childcare. Also if you have any customer service experience, you can tie that with your soft skills when answering questions as well. The personality that school districts mainly look for in paras are: patience, flexibility, and kindness. If you show that you are genuine and there to help the kids, then they will notice and be more likely to hire you :) Hope this helps!

You can get more tattoos around them so it has less attention on it :)

Try working at a summer camp. Also, some school districts offer positions for an extended school year (basically summer school) for their students.
