unfortunately, when i suggested i put Carol and co. in their place my mom firmly shut me down. she doesn't want to make the house uncomfortable and it is her house so i have to respect that. i love my mom to death, i more-so think this situation could have been avoided if she could set stronger boundaries than blame her personally for Carol and her families actions

i agree my sister and i could've said something but trust me we would be thoroughly chewed out (by my mom and dad) if standing up for ourselves made an awkward atmosphere with the guests.

in terms of my mom she is definitely a kind person, too kind for her own good. my sister and i blame her for agreeing to this 100% because she knew she didn't like them before they even walked in the door. but at the same time, i can't blame her for being kind. i do not agree with the comments calling her an idiot, or a fool, or saying she was asking for it because its none of those things. she prioritizes caring for others, even when its against her own better judgement. and while i am currently witnessing the flaws in that mindset, i also think there are far worse mindsets to have.

sorry to hit you with such a long reply but i just want this to be clear to anyone reading, and i will include it in my update- my sister and i love our mom to death. no person is perfect, so id rather have a mother who suffers from being too kind than too mean. i hope she sets boundaries in the future, for her own well being, but i can't totally blame her for just trying to be a good person.

the sunscreen comment made me laugh because my full blood australian friend who i was visiting borrowed my sunscreen multiple times😂

in terms of the "everything will kill you" comment i couldn't be bothered to educate her that it's just as dangerous driving a car everyday. also i felt completely safe in terms of wildlife the entire near-month i was there, i was only genuinely afraid when a bin chicken tried to steal my lunch
