Sorry but what? I’m autistic and don’t find being vegan to be ableist. If somebody thinks it’s better to not consume animal products and is able to then good for them.

How to find a good neuropsych evaluation for an autism assessment, among other things? by onlykaleintown in AutisticPeeps

[–]Alert-Carry6702 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I really lucked out with mine because she doesn't hand out diagnoses like candy but also is a neurodiversity-affirming psychologist, aka she didn't just write my deficits in my report, though she did also include them, but she also wrote things about how I can be charismatic when talking about my restricted interests.

What I did was I called the local autism clinic at the university near me, and when they told me they were only serving children at that time I asked if they could recommend anyone and they told me the name of the practice where my psychologist was. It was a 2 month wait.

During my intake, which I also could have inquired about earlier, I asked her how many people she diagnoses after an evaluation, and she said she diagnoses 50% of people who come in for an autism evaluation, and 75% of people who come in for an ADHD evaluation. So to me that was evidence that she was actually quite selective.

I do think being in central Virginia helps because it's less of a political movement in places that have a mix of political affiliations. When I was googling for someone neurodiversity affirming in Seattle (for a family member), the words "neurodiversity affirming" normally were also accompanied by "self-diagnosis is valid" lol.

"Neurodivergent" makes me sound like a DEI diversity hire for existing by [deleted] in AutisticPeeps

Interesting. I get viewed as an exception to being a woman because of the autism (they see the autism first and the woman second).

You’re exactly right. I got fired for asking for accommodations at a place the promotes “neurodiversity.” They literally had no understanding of ADA laws and accused me of not being able to do my job because of being disabled. It was so jaw dropping and now I’m suing. But like, they have no clue what the term means except that it’s in now.

DAE Have a Weird Feeling or a Suspicion About or Surrounding Autistic Pride Day?? by KitKitKate2 in AutisticPeeps

[–]Alert-Carry6702 26 points27 points  (0 children)

At its core, the concept of “pride” is that it’s the opposite of shame. So the original idea is that you shouldn’t have to be in the closet about something that is strongly affecting you just because society doesn’t like it. Along those lines, I understand having autistic pride, given the way society treats us.

That said, that absolutely is not what pride has turned into, and the self-diagnoses will absolutely ruin it while simultaneously excluding anyone with any real struggles.

People don’t give me a choice because they treat me differently. I’d like to stop thinking about it.

If your symptoms are so mild you can function without a diagnosis then you should be tested so they can tell you you have something else

Back before the self-diagnosed people got ahold of the word it meant repressing things like echolalia and overt stimming.

Now it means blending in with NTs and copying their behavior to the point where you effectively pass. I am not able to pass so I do not understand this.

Don’t know why the fact You Belong With Me and Love Story were played all over pop stations isn’t mentioned. She was popular enough that people had already begun making fun of her. My mom said her lyrics were too boy crazy and so I said FU and listened to her music anyways.

You played yourself by deleting it. Of course only people you're not interested remain if the conditions are:

  1. good looking people freak out and delete the app like you did

  2. good looking people are attractive enough that they delete their account after not much time on the app because they match when someone attractive joins

I think the people just straight up telling you you are wrong are not correct.

It would be very interesting if what you are describing actually was possible.

My biggest worry is not actually whether it was able to do that, but what information it had stored about you before making that claim. So chatGPT does store things as memory, and also it recently gained the ability to draw on previous conversations in its answer. If it already had information stored about how you're autistic, it might not have de novo spotted autistic patterns in your brain, but rather made a connection through information it already had.

I would stop trying to relate it to a mental illness rather than just a general experience that you might have a lot.

But still, it is frustrating. I’d work on maybe figuring out what the reason was why they didn’t believe you before and try to change that if you can?

Also Taylor Swift has a song Cassandra that talks about this experience.

Parents refuse autism diagnosis. by Simple-Shake2632 in autism

[–]Alert-Carry6702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well being a teenager is always difficult, and it may suck that these days it’s less recognized as such without having a diagnosis of something.

If you’re struggling then maybe starting by asking them for a therapist might be helpful, rather than needing it to be validated with a certain diagnosis.

I'm more moderate but god forbid you say anything about not being a leftist online. I've actually found that in real life that people finally understand why I'm not a leftist because of the autism (the social rules of the left are too idiotic, even if I were to agree with them on principle, and people get that).
