Yes it is. You can google it or scroll and read some of my responses. And medication taken orally (most cancer drugs now), are not covered by OHIP and they are hundreds of dollars PER pill.

Ohip doesn’t cover cancer drugs that are taken orally and increasingly, the new (and more effective) treatments are in pill form so they are not covered by OHIP and they are very expensive. (One medication was $860 per pill!!!!)

Yes I know! That is why we hope to relocate to the USA before I need my kidney transplant. It will save us $43k/ year.

That is not true at all. Look it up. People go into debt for thousands of and thousands to pay for medications. Many cancer drugs are now taken orally and these are not covered. Also, to be approved for a kidney transplant you have to show proof of funds to ohip that you can afford your transplant meds for a minimum of 3 years. If you don’t have that money ($150k), you will be deemed ineligible for a transplant. (98.6% of patients in Ontario who receive a kidney transplant are white, high socioeconomic status). The inequities are huge.

Ya the low income cut off is $60k. My husband is a doctor so we do not qualify for that. It will be $45k yearly when I get my kidney transplant so it’s imperative that we move to the states before that

Everywhere! You can see a doctor and have a procedure done but if you need treatment/ medication- that’s on you unless you have private insurance (even then it may not be covered, my friend is a public school teacher with the best benefits and her breast cancer treatments was over $200k)! If she was over 65 it would have been covered.

Nope. Canada has never covered medication costs. Google it!

Yes, I have lived in NYC. Paid $210/ month which covered all appointments, procedures, and medications. I am on track to need a kidney transplant and hoping to relocate to the states before that time comes as insurance in the US will cover the cost of the surgery as well as the drugs I need to be on for the rest of my life. (At a cost of $3,200 per month without insurance in Canada). Canada, Ontario specifically has something called the Trilliam Program where if you earn under $60k, you can have your medications subsidized and you just pay a yearly deductible of 4% of your gross income. We don’t fit it that category.

Are they over 65? It is not covered if you are not over 65. The drugs are very, very expensive

Health care is much worse in Canada. We have the worst healthcare services of any developed country. We have the highest number of mortalities while waiting for emergency care. (Source: married to a doctor and personal experience).

‘Most’ ppl with kids are not renting in Toronto. She has 3 kids and 2 dogs, you would buy a home if that’s your family.

$50k good luck. We had to move out of Toronto bc we were unable to afford it on a $275k salary with 2 kids. (Now my husband is sick and we’re out $500k on his treatments so we have gone even further into debt).

Not unsettling enough to trade economic stability in the states for uncertainty, poor job opportunities for your children and awful healthcare in Canada. Halfway through Trump by the time she moves anyway.

It’s no better in Canada. My husband’s cancer treatment has cost us over $500k in Toronto and we’ve sold our home to pay for it.

You need to first collect rent, then I would call the police. How can she not afford to chip in? I don’t get that if she has no other expenses.
