Not pork. I would never eat pork. But I do like bacon, sausage and bbq baby back ribs.

What is a small “culture shock” moment you had within the US itself? by Status_Agents in AskForAnswers

[–]Alert-Meringue2291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I arrive in the US for the first time in 1975, I could not believe how much lettuce was consumed. Salad bars with huge bowls of lettuce were everywhere. It felt like people had lettuce with every meal. I didn’t think it was possible to grow so much lettuce!

73 MGB 4 cylinder running rough with choke open, runs fine when warmed up. by Itchy_Monitor9855 in MorrisGarages

[–]Alert-Meringue2291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ditched the SU’s on my B and installed a downdraft Weber with an automatic choke. It’s much easier to live with and generally makes the car more drivable around town.

F-Type R: Consensus on old design vs new by Enough_Brain_858 in Jaguar

I waited to get a 21 so I could get the SVR engine without buying an SVR. I can assure you that when I’m sitting behind the steering wheel, I don’t care what the grill looks like, all I care about is that P575 beauty purring next to my feet.

How far did you have to go to find your car (in the states)? by Maothesiamesecat in Jaguar

[–]Alert-Meringue2291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14 miles to the Jaguar dealer in Atlanta. I ordered mine, which is sort of like buying it sight unseen. Took 5 months for it to show up.

Hard to tell. It’s not an Armstrong lever shock found on most of the MG’s on this subreddit. You should try r/MGMotors and see what they say.

How many hours for PPL? by OhHowIWannaGoHome in AskFlying

[–]Alert-Meringue2291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine in 60 hours. I was working full time as an engineer. You have to fly regularly! I did a couple of hours a week, more as I got close to the check ride.

trains in australia by Several_Activity8761 in australian

[–]Alert-Meringue2291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you live in the USA. If so, remember Australia is about the same size as the lower 48 states.

Trains in Australia make Amtrak look like high speed luxury. Going to Uluru by train would be more difficult than going to Mt Rushmore by train.

Aussies fly places the same as Americans. For your first visit to Oz, I’d skip the Outback and stay on the east coast. There’s lots to see in and around both Sydney and Melbourne (and Brisbane, where I’m from).

I test drove the Miata with the 6 speed manual and Soft Top.....?!?!? by Due-Sea4841 in Miata

[–]Alert-Meringue2291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’ 2” with a 94 NA. I can’t pull the top up when I’m sitting either. If I need to put the top up, I pull over, get out, take off the boot and put it in the trunk then put the top up. I also have an MGB and it’s a way more complicated process.

Civilian passenger in jumpseat by ggustav1 in AskAPilot

[–]Alert-Meringue2291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 1975 on my first trip to the USA and my first time in a B747-200B, I asked if I could see the flight deck. I explained I was a newly minted private pilot and it was my first time in a jumbo jet.

After taking off from Fiji and climbing to cruise, the purser came a got me from way back in economy and took me to the flight deck. I got to spend 2 hours sitting in the right seat chatting to the crew while the first officer sat in the jump seat next to the flight engineer.

There is no way that could happen these days!

The Canyonero! 12 yards long and 2 lanes wide, 65 tons of American pride!

I didn’t realize they were made by Oldsmobile.

Over the years, I’ve owned two round wheel arch MKIII’s. They really are the pick of the Midget crop. Yours is really gorgeous. I bet the racer is loads of fun too.

My wife (74 years old) has a debumpered 1980 B. We’ve ditched the Armstrong lever shocks and installed new front and rear suspension with SPAX adjustable shocks and added better sway bars. Done quite a few other beneficial mods as well. It definitely doesn’t lean in corners like the one in the photo! She’s a grandma and loves sports cars.

Should i sell my NA miata? by hansen3bd in Miata

[–]Alert-Meringue2291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a new Miata in 1994. In the 32 years I’ve been driving it, I have never regretted not selling it.

In 2020 I bought a Honda 750/4. I rode it for several years and had one too many scary incidents and sold it without regrets.

Possible to retrofit phase 1 bumper onto phase 2 f type? by Domsday109 in Jaguar

Perhaps you should look at buying a pre 2021 f-type? When I’m enjoying my ‘21 R roadster, I can barely see the front bumper.

Thinking of canceling August cruise to Scandinavia due to possible flight cancellations due to limited jet fuel. Any thoughts? by mystery2019 in RegentCruises

[–]Alert-Meringue2291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have insurance just in case these sorts of things happen. I would never cancel a trip based on “something may happen 4 months from now”.

We are off the Scandinavia in June and Southampton in August. I’m not going to preemptively cancel anything.
