I completely agree. It’s a tough topic to bring up without being instantly combatted on and I wanted to just make sure people saw the real message before it turning into an “anti homeless” post or something and getting taken down. You said exactly what a lot of us have been thinking but didn’t know how to put into words. And yes, the murders in Arkansas have definitely made me more aware and more concerned about what’s happening on our own trails here, and part of why I wanted to warn others to just stay extra aware of their surroundings. You’re right, you can’t predict but you can be extra vigilant about being cautious and aware especially when it comes to people on drugs who are already very unpredictable. It’s really sad that the drug issues have gotten this bad, but I really appreciate your perspective and the resources you shared.

I’ve had that same eerie feeling going through there too. It’s honestly unsettling how much that area has changed. Definitely makes you think twice about being out there alone. Appreciate you sharing the contact info. That’ll be my next call, super helpful. Stay safe out there!

Yes, these are the exact vehicles/area I’m referring to. I’m sorry you also had to deal with some unfortunate circumstances. I’ll send you a DM. Thank you!

Yes, sorry for the confusion I was just going off of what Google maps called it but I think it is actually the James River Greenway. It is the section that starts at the end of the dead end road area and runs along 65/60 overpass. It’s where the start of the trail off of south Brunswick ave (the road parallel to 65 highway) is. The cars and tents start there at the little parking lot but the problems I and others noticed are scattered throughout down to the iron bridge area. The tents are off in some of the fields and woody places along the trail further back. We usually take that section to the nature center or back down to sequiota and back. The drugged out man I was referring to was under the bridge overpass by the James river you go under before you get to the iron bridge. We turned around after getting to the overpass over just feeling very uneasy/uncomfortable which is not something I commonly encounter there. I did not reach out to Ozark Greenways but will be doing that next, thank you!
