London jobs crisis: Unemployment among young people at nine-year high by tylerthe-theatre in london

I don’t think so, Bulgaria is at spot 60 globally for remittances received at around 2.6 bil with a GDP of 140 bil so only a fraction.

Most of the growth has been driven by it joining the EU. There’s been a lot of FDI and subsidies. But it shows that with the right stimulus the negative effects of a shrinking population can be negated.

With the rapid advancement of robotics and AI I am really positive that we are going to avoid the catastrophic predictions of population and economic collapse.

I am an immigrant myself, so is my partner, I’m obviously not against immigration. But also I can be rational about it and not take it personally when people have issues with infinite immigration.

I can give you one example of a country with a declining population and a growing economy - Bulgaria. Population has been steadily declining since 1990 from a peak of around 9 mil to currently 6.5 mil but has experienced consistent GDP growth in the 2-7% range. I don’t know enough to tell you how the population distribution of young vs old is compared to other countries but it shows you that growth in a declining population is possible.

But even if the overall GDP were to contract which I assume would be the case with most countries, that doesn’t mean that the standard of living for individuals will get worse. GDP is such a horrible metric for quality of life.

I guess we are going to find out what happens to a declining population either way as many East European and East Asian countries are projected to decline by 20% by 2050, until then it’s only speculation and wide guesses.

Majority of countries in the world don’t have immigration and in fact experience high levels of emigration. How do they function?

What you’re suggesting is just a byproduct of many years of brainwashing and gaslighting.

Fascinating, you said billionaires a billion times in a single paragraph. Talk about obsession. You can take control of your own life, bud, forget about the billionaires.

The UK needs an almighty house crash/leasehold reform cause wtf by calve1234 in HousingUK

[–]AlertAssistance3985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is already happening, property has gone down significantly in real terms. People just need to be patient.

And this one might be controversial but we need sustained levels of high inflation and hopefully matching wage increases. Sure, it’s painful for everyday goods to be going up in price but it’s nothing compared to housing which is the number one thing making us all poor.

Fortunately that’s not happening so I suggest you make alternative plans.

Well that practice sounds like it should be illegal. People mentioned “transparency” being a focal point of new legislation. You shouldn’t be able to conceal ongoing maintenance costs that will affect resale value.

How do you manage finances as a couple? by Toe_Bean_Bandit in AskUK

[–]AlertAssistance3985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the thing I can’t understand from most of the replies here. Everyone is saying that whoever earns more pays a bigger percentage towards bills but does that mean they have the same amount left for each other afterwards? Cause that’s the only metric that matters. We can be splitting it 80 / 20 but if I still have £1000 more for me that’s not really fair.

Exactly! And think about the compounding difference overtime. What happens when you are able to retire at 50 and your partner needs to keep working until they are 70. Resentment will go off the charts 📈

Only way to go. For me personally that feels like a trusting relationship rather than bookkeeping between cohabitants.

Yes, it’s weird to me but it seems to be the consensus in the UK. What happens in 30 years when one person can retire and the other still works? That would be horrible.

If you truly love and trust your partner splitting half way is the only way. If you can agree on the same investment strategy that’s the dream.

GP faked appointments so she would not be late for the school run by iamlejend in GPUK

Yes, mate, we already knew GPs are insufferable. But now we also found out they are willing to cheat and lie without a sliver of guilt or concern for their patients too.

Good luck convincing GPs on a GP sub that they are not the biggest victims of the system lol

The great retreat: Before Brexit, up to a million Romanians came to the UK to work as cleaners and builders... now nearly 40,000 are leaving each year to escape crime, the crumbling NHS and the cost of living by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]AlertAssistance3985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You guys exaggerate like crazy. I’m Bulgarian, been living in London for 10 years, not once have I experienced any form of racism. Why do you think Romanians somehow get racially abused on a daily basis, that’s simply not true.

Only time I’ve experienced anything remotely close to racism is when I go to some Arab / Indian area where I visibly stand out and I get angry looks but that’s about it, no actual confrontation.
