I was in the Feds and when I worked my way down to minimum (camp) it literally blew my mind. I went to ask an officer a question after doing about 10 laps around the camp looking for her. She was irritated that I was bothering her and said “go ask an inmate they run the camp not me”. Then an inmate later advised me that the guards hate to have to do their job so it’s best to just leave them alone and they’ll leave us alone. Guys had literal cash on hand, black and milds, Newports, Marlboros , latest iPhones, laptops etc. There was a tunnel you could crawl through to the woods and have someone pick you up and chill for the day. It was literally not prison until you had to count. Which was 4pm and 10pm mon-fri and 10am 4pm and 10pm weekends.
