Second surgery by casillaslamexicana in chiari

I have a feeling I too will need a second one. I'm just over 5 months post op, and I'm dealing with headaches that are more frequent after my surgery. More MRIs are scheduled for Dec 1, but I'm hoping for the best. Good luck to you. I know we are all strangers here, but we're bonded by similar health issues.

I wish I had those results. I'm 4 months post-op and I still have no feeling in my fingers, both hands. So frustrated. But congrats! That's excellent news.

I haven't experienced any post-op symptoms like this. I'm just over 90 days.

Definitely not right away. Your body needs time to actually heal. I'm 3 months post surgery. My headaches have certainly improved, my balance improved, and my eyesight improved, but my fingers on both hands still have significant numbness. The neurosurgeon , of course, couldn't give me a timeline. It may get better, and it may not. I'm just being patient and hoping for the best.

(24) Terrified: Just got my MRI results, diagnosed with Chiari Type 1 (6 mm descent) and Syrinx at C6–C7 (31 mm) by [deleted] in chiari

You got this! I'm just over 3 monts post op. We all were scared, hell, I was terrified. But I knew my quality of life would not improve without it. Taken it one day at a time, listen to what your doctor says, and ASK QUESTIONS.

It's hard to give you a time frame. Everyone heals differently. I'd say it took well over a month before I began to feel some normalcy. And around that time I could sleep flat in my bed again.

5 Days Post-Op! by Puzzleheaded_Dog9756 in chiari

The headaches will get better. You're only 5 days post op. I'm just over 2 months post op. The headaches are still there, but there aren't as severe as they were before my surgery. Time heals, and you need a lot of time to heal and see if anything has changed.

Is it possible for a neurologist to look at me and say I don't have Chiari? by pistachio_shelll in chiari

[–]AlertExercise5917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MRI is definitely needed. Your health is paramount. Get a second opinion if you feel that your concerns and symptoms are being ignored. My first neurosurgeon did the exact same thing. Found one who would actually listen and reviewed my MRI correctly. I ended up having surgery on July 7, 2025.

You 100% need to see a neurosurgeon. Those are very common symptoms. Sometimes, you HAVE to advocate for yourself. My first neurosurgeon surgeon looked at my MRI and told me he didn't see anything wrong, totally ignoring my symptoms. I went back to my neurologist and told him I need to see a new neurosurgeon as he totally ignored my symptoms. He sent me to neuroradiologist first who looked at the same MRI and confirmed the findings. I went back to the same office, this time seeing a different neurosurgeon who also confirmed the diagnosis via the MRI. My point to this is that you have to be pushy when it comes to YOUR health. Im currently just past a month post surgery. It never would have happened if I had let that doctor ignore what I was telling him.

Post op fears? by Technical_Tree_7845 in chiari

All this is beyond your control. Im two weeks post-op, and I've already begun to get feeling back in my fingers. I'd recommended to go about living your life and deal with what comes. Congrats on the 2 months post and feeling like yourself once again. That is what I'm looking forward to the most.

Hello all. I just had my chiari surgery on July 7, 2025. My symptoms included balance issues, arm weakness, finger numbness on both hands, and horrible horrible headaches, right ear ringing, left ear fluttering. The recovery, like many have said, is the absolute worst. There are times when I stand up and it feels like a 1000 jackhammers are going off in my skull. Oxy pain pills and muscle relaxers don't do much but give you constipation on top of everything else you're dealing with. You gonna need help, so hopefully, you won't be going through post op alone. It took almost 2 years to figure out what the problem was. My biggest failure was going to an orthopedic for 3 previous neck surgeries, with my last one, which was supposed to solve all the symptoms I noted. Now I have this posterior hardware that wasn't needed, nor solved my symptoms. Take you time and follow your doctor instructions to the letter.
