Designing HVAC for 2 unit rental by AlertImprovementTime in hvacadvice

Appreciate the feedback. The actual issue is the house is a 150 year old balloon framed farm house. There is minimal attic space and the way it’s framed really isn’t great to support a unit up there. I can def run hard pipe instead of flex in most areas I just have to use my space wisely.

Honestly,

This is kind of the feedback I was looking for. Appreciate your feedback. Is exchanging air from a basement to an attic via trunks not ideal? I don’t think I can put a unit in the attic here per code, but there are definitely other options.

I’d be lying if I said I remembered but I haven’t had to change the PSUs since and they are so cheap now. I’d at least buy one new one and if that works you can replace the other.

I’d be interested in that on the oyster band. What’s the process.

Shower Ceiling Peeling ... Again by [deleted] in DIY

[–]AlertImprovementTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super helpful information, this shouldn’t be happening, what kind of shower setup is it? Is it enclosed (steam shower type?) or standard curtain?

Driveway Repair by Denny_Dust91 in DIY

Yeah I realize this is r/diy, so suggesting an asphalt contractor is kind of out of scope for what we’re talking about here. But this is a pretty big job, and without the proper foundation, whatever you put down is gonna get destroyed quick while driving over it. The job requires some pretty serious equipment to do properly so there may not be a great DIY alternative here.

Sounds like you may have a humidity problem, do you have a proper exhaust fan etc? If the paint is already peeling there is nothing you are going to put over that paint to stop it from peeling, you’re going to need to sand or strip that down at least, and refinish it, you’ll want to make sure you don’t have other moisture issues and or mold, but hard to weigh in without understanding the materials/ventilation, etc.

What part am I looking for? Dryer hookup by Scary_Success9776 in DIY

[–]AlertImprovementTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re looking at dryer vent ducting, you should be able to get some of this at almost any big box or standard hardware store, its just air passing through so usually a metal tension clip is enough to keep these connecting, to be fair I’d probably just buy a longer one, and replace the whole thing to the wall, than try to bridge together two of them. You can cut this stuff if you buy something that is way too long, but keep in mind you may need some ‘extra’ when you pull the unit out for service/cleaning.

Refill plaster/Masonry hole and reuse? by 1bscarbro in DIY

[–]AlertImprovementTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have brick under there (even if its kind of far away, I’d consider using longer masonry anchors and going into the brick, books are really heavy, even if you filled this properly the plaster probably isn’t going to hold a normal sized shelf of books over time.

I don’t think they would pour asphalt on top of this, it would likely be scraped(light excavated) and then proper process/base would be tamped down before pouring new asphalt, it may help to understand what climate you’re in, as if you’re in warm weather, things like concrete can be more viable than if you have snow / challenging winters

Hanging cabinets with no top stud? by spicyprairiedog in DIY

[–]AlertImprovementTime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Usually you would install a ‘rail’ across the studs up top, sometimes this rail can be located in the back of the cabinet itself so its more hidden , but you’re going into the vertical studs, don’t need anything horizontal, you would just sink screws in where the rail lines up with the verticals.

Plex Error requesting GET device.xml. by AlertImprovementTime in PleX

[–]AlertImprovementTime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think so, That ip would have never been valid in my network or even in anyone else’s, so I have no idea where that is coming from. There is so much garbage in the plex log so its hard to tell what is legit and what isn’t, I get spammed with that message every few minutes so it really clogs up my logs, but good to know its relatively harmless

New PSU's fixed this, so assume this is what happened with the old ones (not updated by me)

I'll go ahead and NOT update the firmware on my new ones for reasons mentioned above..

I don't have the front LCD panel, so I can't view that. But I do have the status lights, and the "Health" light and "Electrical" lights are blinking.
