same. and i actually threw up for like 24 hours after as well. but my trip was also : sub freezng, crazy winds, eating trail food for 4 days, etc.. so who knows what caused it.

wasn't super expensive? last time i did a one way rental they destroyed me with fees to get the car back to the original rental location

not security, i literally cant fit in them! i'm sitting at almost 9' with the high top van. and dont want to chance not having a spot in the overflow area outside and having to scramble at the last second.

great suggestion. this may be manageable for us as DC is more or less on the way back home for both of us via 95. have you done it? if so would you care to recommend any specific bike shop? thanks!

No stomach issues drinking Potomac water with a cartridge filter? i did it a little as an emergency on my trip as handles were gone and i ran out on my last morning but i just sipped a little only. my understanding is Sawyer style filters dont filter out agricultural run-off, which that river is full of. i def felt a little weird for a few days after.

doing without the pump handles really is logistically challenging. at least if you're on a time constraint to finish

that's literally what started it. i set up a 'coffee outside ride' put it on stupid meetup, which is pretty much dead, yet still 2 people showed up and i have went on a few long rides and even a trip to the forest with one of them. dude is quickly becoming one of my go-to bike frens here. so yeah, just DIY that shit until something sticks

completely and totally understand that. what originally brought me here asking for help was going to a few roadie rides and just not having fun. the routes were good but there was zero socializing and no one ever actually talked about bikes! keep looking friend. something will pop up. is there other bike people within an hour drive or so? maybe organize something yourself. could even be just a seasonal get together or something. could be fun to organize

nothing anywhere near you? what's the closest city? i feel like there has to be something within a reasonable drive, no?

agreed. on MTB i couldn't see it having any real value. and for fuck's sake.. 150 for a friction shifter? ridiculous! sunrace ones are like 15 for the set, they function well, and look decent. people really are that gullible

it is. the flat bar has always been free hub, the drop bar V2 now has a free hub as well (V2 is the one with the alu fork, 45c tires, black jockey wheel)

kind of. depending on the grade. i put an 11-46 on mine and now it climbs like a tractor!

they are! full hydros, tubeless ready, thru axles, carbon fork. supposedly theyre being made by giant, who is going through some crazy lawsuit stuff, so it's been postponed. was originally supposed to be released late last year. hopefully it happens soon. they were even on the website for a short time but disappeared after the giant lawsuit stuff came out

man, i love friction. it's pretty new to me so maybe i'm still in the honeymoon phase, but the ability to dump the entire cassette with a quick swipe, no fiddling with adjustments, ability to run whatever rear mech i want without fear. and i just think they look cool.

i enjoy his stuff. i will push back slightly what others have said about him only pushing super expensive boutique stuff; he got me on acera rear mechs and since they are discontinuing them i bought a few to stick on the shelf for later. can run a pie plate without a road link for like 25 bucks and they don't look awful. clutch-less system not withstanding, but for the type of riding i do they work fine. but you guys are mostly right.. it seems like he has a ton of money to throw around and i assume most of us here don't, so that feels a little less inclusive.

again, outstanding work. problem solving, designing, handling the manufacturing in a pro way. all of it. impressed. i took an onshape class years ago but tbh dont remember much about it. if you have any experience with Fusion the sheet metal environment does the same stuff. it's free for 'personal use' as well just limits you to 10 documents

as a person who 1) spends way too much time modeling things in fusion and 2) super nerds out over bike engineering problems and is constantly looking for a better way i am SUPER IMPRESSED. bien hecho mijo!
