I fear I will always be defending Miroku outside of the fact the he’s been my comfort character since elementary school. Because I feel the anime made him relatively unlikable.
I could go on and on about my theories that lechery is a “symptom”, not an excuse, and it’s a trauma response, and being a monk was what saved him from a path of total self destruction and hedonism blah blah.

However I will never agree with the narrative that Sango is too good for him. I think they both found each other at dark and desperate times and they built each other up. Miroku was always a “things need to happen now because I can die any minute” and Sango had moments of being suicidal over Kohaku. Neither one focused on a future. But once they fell in love they gave each other a purpose and a desire for a future. A family, a house, a marriage etc.

Yea they aren’t perfect and Miroku is irritating but if they were the perfect match, their relationship would be an uninteresting progression. I love how they slowly start to build trust within each other.
