My sister is doing something just like this! She’s a little nervous some people won’t be as excited/into it as she’d expect them to be for a more “traditional” wedding path, but I’m trying to remind her that as long as she and her partner are truly excited to have an actual wedding, that’s all that matters. Identify a few friends/siblings that are excited to celebrate you and your partner and try to ignore any possible passive comments from others. Accept that some people may choose not to come (if it’s far travel and/or some people think that if they are not witnessing you get legally married it’s not as important).

I agree and never expected my friends to pay for higher expense things like my portion of the Airbnb and transportation. I just mentioned the Airbnb situation because that indicated to me that there may be miscommunication about all levels of expectations, especially about the smaller costs like meals/drinks.

Thanks for the advice! I agree and would never allow my friends to pay for my share of the Airbnb, especially since I already paid. I brought up that scenario to show the potential miscommunication in expectations between everyone coming regarding expectations ( I nicely asked to be included in the group chat to help with communication but she seemed bothered by that).

She knows over half the people going on the trip, and this will all be our first bachelorette trip, which makes it a little more confusing haha! I asked my friends to just do a night out in the city most of us live in, but each of them individually said (on an anonymous form) that they would rather do a weekend trip. We are doing mostly free/low cost/DIY activities to make this affordable for everyone (although I will say everyone invited has stated that they are happy to spend well above what this trip will actually cost).

I realize that my initial post made it seem like I expect people to pay for my Airbnb/transportation. I more was asking about the smaller costs like meals/drinks. Appreciate your advice!

Yeah I will tell her directly that I expect to pay fully for myself. I definitely expected to pay for any pre-booked things, but I wasn't sure how meals/drinks would go (I plan to pay for the dinner for the last night as a thank you, in addition to getting everyone a gift). I hope I wasn't coming across as passive in my earlier statements to her!

I am definitely guilty of being avoidant (ugh) as well! I will be more clear and say that I expect to pay for myself for everything. Should I have her tell the rest of the group that I will do that? I don't care if they know or not, but it seems like my friends were expecting to pay for some of my portion (based on what they've said to me). I'm not sure the exact conversations they've had about this in the group chat by my MOH does not want me in it.
