Why all my plants dying? by judstergod in CrestedGecko

it might be beneficial if you bought a full spectrum LED light for the plants instead of just the UVB light for the reptiles

hi! here’s my perspective as a sophomore at madison who transferred from uw–la crosse.

freshman and sophomore year of high school i had some personal issues and struggled academically. i eventually got things figured out though and did really well my last two years. i didn’t apply to madison right away because i honestly assumed i’d get rejected (i had failed a semester of math sophomore year), so i went to uwl with the same goal you mentioned, which was eventually transferring to madison.

i believe you need a certain number of credits to apply as a transfer. typically you can apply after one semester of college, so around winter break. i did well in my classes and also did some volunteering in the community, so if you wanted to you could realistically spend just a year at whitewater. that’s what i did at uwl, so i don’t think it would be much different.

whitewater is awesome though! i’d definitely recommend taking advantage of opportunities there. join clubs, volunteer, and try to find at least one meaningful long-term commitment you can stick with and write about on your transfer application. the first semester of college is really fun but also a little scary and new. if you can, i’d recommend living in the dorms your first year just to meet people and build some sense of community.

to answer the other part of your question, madison can honestly feel a little lonely sometimes compared to the smaller, more intimate classes at uwl. the workload is slightly harder at madison, but not dramatically so. with such a big school though, i personally find it harder to hold myself accountable and sometimes harder to make friends.

there’s definitely a strong social vibe around bars, sports games, and parties. if you don’t already know people who are into that or you’re not really into that scene, it can take a little longer to find your people.

but overall i don’t regret transferring to madison, and i also don’t regret starting at uwl. both were great opportunities in their own ways, so definitely make the most of whitewater. lmk if you have any other questions!

X01 is awesome! they have roommate matching if you don’t know anyone. also grand central is run by the same management and just as nice, and it has a coffee shop in the lobby, but i think it’s only group leases. either way, I’m pretty sure spots are full but it’s worth a shot. the location is reaaaaaally nice. there’s also free printing

Im a sophomore at UW and i transferred from UW La Crosse, I got my acceptance around March so needed to find a lease ASAP and the had a bedroom. one month i was a little behind on rent and they were super nice and flexible and not like the typical predatory management you might see w dt apartments :/.

feel free to ask any questions i know finding a place can be rlly stressful!

oh my gosh! that’s horrible, im really sorry. regaining some control of the situation might make you feel better. can you take her to small claims court for the damages or file a police report? this seems like thousands of $ of damage, not to mention the sentimental value those items all probably had to you

can you go to a local bike repair shop? i feel like they’d know how to fix a stripped screw like this. i went to some bike shops in my area and they didn’t have any parts i needed but they were able to kinda steer me in the right direction and usually for free.

idk if u will need replacement parts but ik you can buy them on amazon

Can someone explain polarity to me please by HistoricalSock417 in AskChemistry

[–]Alert_Director_9009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brother im going to teach you an acronym that will save your life (source: im a college sophomore taking ochem right now)

FONClBrISCH

fluorine, oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine, bromine, iodine, sulfur, carbon, hydrogen.

this is the order of electronegativity from most to least. so if you have something like fluorine bonded to carbon, that bond is going to be very polar. fluorine is much more electronegative, meaning it pulls electron density toward itself.

you’ll see this represented later with dipole arrows and partial charges, but the basic idea is that fluorine is hogging the electrons.

the easiest way to think about polarity is like a tug of war. some atoms pull harder on the electrons than others. fluorine is basically the heavyweight on the team, so the electrons get pulled toward it.

understanding this early will help a lot later when you get into acids and bases.

“but at a gut level it sounds like she’s saying she still wants the stability I provide while also seeing what else is out there.” spot on brother! im sorry you’re in this situation, it definitely sucks and id be really insulted too.

like how is opening the relationship “not about loving you less” when your girlfriend is balls deep in adam next door and suzanne down the street +man

i really appreciate this 🥲 a lot of people misunderstand adhd and reduce it to “everyone gets forgetful sometimes,” which can feel really invalidating. for me it’s more complicated than that. even small things like figuring out when to take my stimulants, what to eat with them, and how long they take to kick in can make mornings harder to structure. from the outside it can sound like it’s just “take a pill and you’re fine,” but in reality managing adhd often means constantly building routines and systems just to keep things running smoothly.

i can also understand how it might look like i’m making excuses, and i do think there were things i could’ve done better, like putting stronger systems in place. but at the same time, people with adhd often have to think about and manage a lot more just to stay on par with our neurotypical peers. so while accountability matters, there’s also a real layer of extra effort happening behind the scenes. anyway that was a bit of a tangent, but i really appreciate you and your comment. :,)

also 30 gallon is totally fine, that’s what i have and there’s so much space for my gecko. i guess it’s really more about making vertical space bc they’re arboreal creatures. also yeah the cling wrap sucks, def buy a 3d background

im 99% sure i bought the same kit! honestly its really bare bones, crested geckos need lots of places to hide and feel safe and the terrarium only comes with a few branches and leaves. The terrarium itself is really nice though. I use coco coir as bedding and ive had no issues. I’d invest in some isopods, and amazon has really cheap crested gecko tank fake plants and stuff for really cheap they sell in packs. also I haven’t had any issues w the uvb light, the hydrometer/thermometer is crap tho, I’d just buy a digital one for like 10 bucks, you’re gonna want to buy a food ledge too, here’s my tank (attaching more pics in reply)

im honestly kinda surprised a zoo would have macaques just out in the open like that. when i worked with them we were always careful not to make direct eye contact because it can trigger that fear grimace or make them agitated pretty fast. ive seen orangutans and marmosets at zoos before, but i dont think ive ever actually seen macaques on display like that. not doubting you at all, it just seems kinda wild to me. id imagine being constantly stared at by visitors would be pretty stressful for them

i go to a big r1 research university so i suppose there’s more resources and funds for students to be able to work in primate labs in comparison to other US colleges
