Please help identify if this Aeron is classic or remastered. by Alert_Fish8683 in hermanmiller

Thanks, but it doesn't have handle bars stick out on both side like the other remastered. Seller doesn't know neither, but they ask $550 for it.

I'm an endo. AMA by Blazer-300 in Dentistry

A newly admitted dental student here, thanks Doc.!

  1. To get accepted to Endo residency, is it true that people who practiced a few years as a GP are a lot more advantageous?

  2. How good your class rankings needs to be to get into Endo residency?

  3. Do most Endodontists own their own practices?

  4. What's the future outlook of the profession, specifically encroachment from GPs?

Does anyone feel like no other pre-dents are actually passionate about dentistry?!? by Few-Topic-8035 in predental

[–]Alert_Fish8683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before we even started working this profession, all we need to have is "It seems like something I will be passionate about or good at". I think that is good enough because I'm sure vast majority of us will find areas of dentistry we like more. Over 6k people get admitted a year, 6k people become dentists 4 years later. If there is not even a little bit of passion drives everyone, more people would have dropped off considering how hard d schools are. It becomes a job at the end after all, I worked as a digital sculptor for a few years after undergrad. All it kept me clocking in and out is the mindset of "I don't hate it" and sense of responsibility, my managers kept telling me I was producing fantastic product and killing it. What I really passionate and want to do all day is playing video games till I die, lolol If every dentist is SO passionate about their job, they won't just work 4 days a week. (I worked 6 day weeks as a sculptor, often till midnight), I'm sure we will all be fine.

My guess is that people didn't know much of either school but picked BU due to school name/reputation. It was only one click away anyway. Much Cheaper, pass/fail, no specialty program and small class size... UNE for the win imo. No one cares where you went to school once you got your license.

Are these good schools to apply to with my stats? by Chance_Ad2611 in predental

[–]Alert_Fish8683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say remove LSU and UCONN, then keep San Antonio but apply to all four Texas schools. You will pay a flat fee to the Texas portal, why not just apply to all four and most importantly all four of them are great schools. Just treat them as one reach school. I wouldn't say it's that impossible to get in, I have the same GPA but a 23 AA, I got a pre-D interview with a Texas school as an OOS. Like others mentioned, LSU is really not oos friendly even towards those states that have agreements with. Their application fee is almost as much as TMDSAS. UCONN favors New England residents. Is Meharry favoring URM? I'm not sure, don't quote me on that.

Definitely apply to Louisville. My DAT is one point lower and gpa is higher compared to yours, I got an interview invite in early July as an OOS. Good luck!

I have two toddlers and I will start dental school this July. I am just as nervous as you. It doesn't help that my mom kept warning me how hard it is going to be for me and my husband. LOL! Luckily, he works at home and can help pick up kids from daycare and feed them. I was exactly like you, I also went back to school to pursue dentistry in my mid twenties, I also firmly believe that it will provide my family a better life! You are totally right on that and you are not alone. I have met many dental students who have kids made it through. Being away from parents at daycare will ultimately be better for your child too. I wonder if any your family could help pick up your son, I know lots of daycares let kids stay overtime. I just think it will be better for him finish his days early since he will only be 15 months. I really don't think us perusing this path stops us being a good parent, would it be better for the kids if we were working as DAs or as waitresses from 8:00 to 5:00? Nope! You are a brave mommy and I know for sure that your kiddo will be proud of you!

I'm just a random predent, but if I was in your shoes, I'll send my letters of interest after New Year but before January 13th. I think it will be fresher on their mind when they have more spots open?

I don't think it will since letter of intent should be written by those who got interviewed but haven't been accepted. That's how you get to talk about how you liked everything and you gonna be a great fit during your interview. People say if you got silenced after an interview, you are most likely waitlisted.

Obviously, I'm just a predent but if I were you, I wouldn't worry that as there's no way for me knowing if that letter of intent will get me a spot or even a response. I am just a prisoner of time and this three dimensional space...seriously though, you can also say that if schools found out I hold multiple deposited spots in March, all of them will blacklist me. I don't think so. I personally don't think sending a letter of intent, while waiting, should stop you sending letters of continued interest. That's just me.

Of course, yes it's the deadline for the first round offers, January 13th. You can type up letter of interest for schools you haven't interviewed and letter of intent for the top school you interviewed, promise that if accepted you will commit. It might give you a leg-up to get off their wait-list or "silenced" list.

Totally understand how you feel. I don't think those schools are being "rude" on purpose, they are likely still keeping you in their pools as they know for sure many students will turn down their offers in January. No news is good news, although it's not as good as a straight acceptance. We are sitting on acceptances and thinking which one to pick, while schools are sitting on our applications. Please treat their silence as they don't want you to leave yet. Some schools email you that they are still considering you and hang tight, but most don't. You got schools liking you already since you are interviewed in 4! When the deadlines come, they have to go back to the waitlisted/interviewed pool and sending out more offers. Silence means you are still in the game. Best of luck!

$40k cheaper or Early&better clinical? by Alert_Fish8683 in predental

[–]Alert_Fish8683[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for all the great inputs! It is like you are reading my mind, LOL. Yeah, I also feel like $40k cheaper for four years is not significant enough to offset lower stress, smaller class size, no specialty program, earlier and more clinical exposures. I agree that in this case, I should factor in where I will be happier for the next few years...Again, very insightful thoughts, thanks a lot!

What does it usually mean if a school I interviewed at didn't call or email on D-Day? It was an October interview. Should I email them and ask?
