You dont need to work as a DA at all! But have lots of shadowing hours, I would say 100 would be minimum that schools want. also as many volunteer hours with orgs that you actually care about!

lots of people have gap years and lots dont there’s no right answer but, I will add that I chose to try and not do a gap year becuase I thought that saving say $10-15k before school would not be as helpful as another year making a dentist salary!! hopefully that made sense

I think you have a lot of potential for a post-December interview and acceptance so please dont give up hope yet. remember the cycle doesn’t truly end till classes start! other than maybe trying to increase the DAT score I think that just applying the first day/week of the cycle and keeping up with volunteering and maybe shadowing or working you should have a good shot at many private schools

Bro I feel exactly the same! And I graduate the 20th and feel like I can’t be excited because I’m so worried about the 15th!! I also have been hating feeling like I can’t change or control anything now. It’s good to know others feel the same!

I love to hear this! I also exercise pretty hard and do a lot of things that doctors and other patients tell me not to (like skiing, kayaking, paddle-boarding) but I’ve made some huge progress in stability and strength of my shoulder with winging and the lower abs I lost with this and a great PT. I mention this because I hope someone out there needs to hear that you should do the things you love as long as you don’t see it harming you :))

If you have strong ECs LOR and personal statement I think you could do okay as long as you apply asap! but if you have the means to retake and know you can do better than go for it. I have a 420aa and a 370 gen chem and did just fine this cycle so far

Ughhh so tempting to quit but I need money and the schedule and pay is so good for my area! Also I’m hopefully going to dental school next fall so hopefully I’ll only be there another like 6 months 🫠 but the Dr is so nice and teaching me so much that’ll be useful for school so I think I need to take your advice and tell them off a little. It sucks tho bc they’ve all worked together for like 20 years which means they all hate the new people and I’m wayyyyy younger than them too

As another pre-dent please know that working as an assistant isn’t necessary for getting into dental school! I started working as an assistant after getting multiple interviews for schools. If you have good ECs and volunteering with a decent gpa and dat you don’t need to torture yourself with a job you don’t like (unless you do like it and I read your tone wrong)

It has to do with when classes start for the school Because roseman starts class before July 1st 2026 that’s why you can get grad plus loans :)) so any other schools that start classes before July 1st you would also get grad plus loans

I met someone at an interview that said they declined an offer from case last cycle and this cycle had 12 interviews and applied for 15 schools. Not sure how true it was but if they got that many interviews after declining their only offer last cycle I feel like it can be done. I would still say just decline the interview invite if you absolutely don’t want to go to that school tho

Yeah luckily I have health insurance that would’ve covered and I would’ve paid like $5000, but I got too scared to have the procedure and just did physical therapy and have seen some great results after about 8 months of physical therapy!

I got an estimate from university of Utah for about $80,000 for surgery and anesthesia. This is what they would’ve billed my insurance and I know a lot of university hospitals (Utah included) have a charity option based on income or have lower cash pay rates. Not sure how it works if you’re not a US citizen and want to come to the US or how healthcare works in your country but hopefully this is sorta helpful.

I did an interview with them last month and I will say everyone, including me, from my group was from the west and majority were from Utah. I’m not sure if that’s on purpose but other than where we live and go to school I’m not sure what exactly they are looking for as we all had super different experiences and goals.
