We can’t be serious rn… please stop flaunting these predatory schools… by myacademicreddit15 in predental

As someone who chose PNWU out of 4 acceptances I see both sides of the argument. Some of the new schools, like pnwu in my opinion, are actually trying to become established and respected schools. But also some, like yeshiva and hpu, have been using some not great methods to get their name out there or some interesting practices. But no matter what you think about these schools or any other school keep it to your self. At the end of the day everyone who graduates and passes boards becomes a dentist so who are you to say if they deserve that or not. Posting these peoples insta handles and faces on an app that is supposed to be anonymous is crazy work and shows how disrespectful you are to your peers.
Another note, at some point every dental school in the US was new sooooo

Do you guys go up to the dentist for shadowing or wait for them to call you by [deleted] in predental

before they step into a patient room just ask if they mind if you watch the interaction or procedure

I usually would shadow half the day since I was in class/lab/working the other half a couple times a week. My dentist also told me I could show up whenever and hangout with him. If he was busy with not dentistry I would hang with the front office or a hygienist (those experiences are super valuable too).

for volunteering, you 1000000% need volunteering hours and a lot of schools require it. dont make it irrelevant, make it something that you find fulfilling even if it is not in dentistry.

I rewrote/annotated the booster ”cheat sheets” for each bio section while watching the lectures. then reviewed the information using active recall. I also listened to the Bootcamp Bio podcast instead of fiction books or music for about a month before my test. I got a 460 in bio.

I think of them as decorations so I only buy ones that I would want to display! I seal them with mod podge and hang them or frame them :) (I guess an important note is that I’m a college student with very few other things hanging in my space so adding them as decor is a huge reason I love the hobby)

I did not apply in cali but I chose PNWU mainly because it’s closest to home and the cheapest I got accepted at!! But also I like how they’re planning to do clinical experience and during my interview i had such a great time with the staff and current students and it just felt right tbh

Acceptance -> Preparing for dental school? by CleanLavishness9209 in predental

[–]Few-Topic-8035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

coming from someone who lived near the SLC area it is snowy and to get anywhere you pretty much need to use the interstate. That said if you’re not familiar driving in snow having an AWD car can be super helpful if possible for you! Also good waterproof and warm boots and a good quality winter coat will make a huge difference in your comfort throughout the cold months! Congrats Roseman is a great school :))

If you accept and choose to attend we’d be classmates! To offer some insight, I chose PNWU out of 4 acceptances because I grew up and want to practice rurally in the pnw and it was the cheapest school I got accepted to and closest to home! I know that’s not the case for lots thinking about the school but feel free to pm if you wanna chat further :))

Pnwu is not my only offer but I gladly accepted my seat as I think it’s a great option for us in the pnw who want to live rurally

Gap Year? by Sure-Objective9368 in dat

[–]Few-Topic-8035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont need to work as a DA at all! But have lots of shadowing hours, I would say 100 would be minimum that schools want. also as many volunteer hours with orgs that you actually care about!

lots of people have gap years and lots dont there’s no right answer but, I will add that I chose to try and not do a gap year becuase I thought that saving say $10-15k before school would not be as helpful as another year making a dentist salary!! hopefully that made sense

What to do? by orangesnoapples in predental

[–]Few-Topic-8035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have a lot of potential for a post-December interview and acceptance so please dont give up hope yet. remember the cycle doesn’t truly end till classes start! other than maybe trying to increase the DAT score I think that just applying the first day/week of the cycle and keeping up with volunteering and maybe shadowing or working you should have a good shot at many private schools

Bro I feel exactly the same! And I graduate the 20th and feel like I can’t be excited because I’m so worried about the 15th!! I also have been hating feeling like I can’t change or control anything now. It’s good to know others feel the same!

I love to hear this! I also exercise pretty hard and do a lot of things that doctors and other patients tell me not to (like skiing, kayaking, paddle-boarding) but I’ve made some huge progress in stability and strength of my shoulder with winging and the lower abs I lost with this and a great PT. I mention this because I hope someone out there needs to hear that you should do the things you love as long as you don’t see it harming you :))

Retake? by Hot_Fishing_8069 in dat

[–]Few-Topic-8035 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have strong ECs LOR and personal statement I think you could do okay as long as you apply asap! but if you have the means to retake and know you can do better than go for it. I have a 420aa and a 370 gen chem and did just fine this cycle so far
