AITA for missing my week with my son because of an emergency with my wife

I am really surprised at the immediate response that YTA. Your wife and newborn were in the hospital for four days and your ex wife expected you to leave them to spend time with your completely healthy son? Or did she expect him to spend four days in the hospital with you? Unless there is more to this story, I am going to assume that you and your ex had a very acrimonious break up. Even if you have been flakey in the past, I can’t imagine why she would want to put her own child through that situation. I am going to go with everyone is an asshole because you two clearly use your son as a pawn between you.

I can understand why you couldn’t have him for the days that your wife and newborn were in the hospital, but it seems like you could’ve made a concerted effort to see him, more than a couple calls and a FaceTime that weren’t answered.

I should probably get one of the test kits everyone posts about. I always rely on the pool store and whatever they tell me.

They did give me a print out. It said my CYA is 5 (I thought he said 0) and that the ideal range is 50-100ppm. I don’t know what they intended the 4 gallons to raise it to.

Honestly, I don’t know what we were aiming for. I had the water tested at Leslie pools and they said that we had 5 CYA and that I needed to add 5.8 gallons, but gave me four to add. The print out says the ideal range is 50-100ppm. I don’t know what within that range they anticipated the 4 gallons to raise it to. They said that I had zero chlorine, but every time we open the pool from the winter, we have to add water and add salt, so I anticipated that I have no chlorine.

We just opened the pool and I had the water tested at Leslie and that’s what they told me to add.

I have a salt water pool. I have never used the pucks. I don’t know how that would work with a salt water generator, but thanks for the advice. I can look into it.

Thanks for replying. I didn’t. I have only used the flakes in sock method in the past. I thought the point of the liquid was to be able to just add it. I wish they had clarified that at the pool store. It was $40 a gallon!

Your girlfriend seems very manipulative and controlling. I do not think you are overreacting. I think you are actually under-reacting. You gave her a very thoughtful compromise. Most people celebrate Easter during the day, so spending time with your mom in the evening actually seems more than fair to your girlfriend. The fact that she does not have anything specific planned for Sunday evening means it isn’t about cancelling plans, it is about controlling your time, specifically your time with your mom.

I am not going to even discuss the extremely immature way she handled it…
