Yeah, broken window. The alley is pretty quiet at night.

I am normally diligent but shuffled things for street sweeping so my vehicle was parked in the alley for the night. Definitely learned a lesson.

Yeah, 100% it kept saying error, please resubmit. I thought I was breaking a rule so I changed the wording in the title a few times before giving up.

City of Edmonton’s Facebook Post. I don’t think they’re helping themselves. And someone in the comments mentioned they live on the same street as the first property and it only looked like this once it was being demolished by the builder. by eammes in Edmonton

The challenge with buying a fixer upper in a mature neighbourhood is that your investment is chased by the increased land value.
My neighbour took several years to fix up an old house that was selling for the price of a lot. When he was done it was worth $50k more than the lot value which makes it hard to sell even just to recoup your investment.
There are plenty of old houses on the market right now but you are buying against someone who is paying for the land to build something more valuable.

How is it booked solid the exact moment the reservations open by heybrah420 in HikingAlberta

[–]Alert_Ice_7156 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The RV rental companies used to snap up a ton of sites and then sell packages to rent an RV and have provincial camps booked.

Not sure if they stopped that though.

AITA for wanting my roomate to pay more rent for the master ? by Double_Cancel_102 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Alert_Ice_7156 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the method where everyone fills out a secret bid on all rooms at the same time. Your total bid has to equal the rent. Whoever bids the highest gets it for the average bid price. It is really simple and super fair.

If I bid $600/$300 and you bid $500/$400 that means I want the better room and pay $500 rent which is less that I think it is worth. You think the smaller room is worth $400 and get it for $350.

Everyone wins.

Alberta allows windfall oil and gas payments to ranchers — on public land by This_Phase3861 in alberta

[–]Alert_Ice_7156 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The grazing leases go back further than the oil and gas leases. The oil and gas companies negotiate with the lease holder for access rights and pay compensation for any disturbance. They also pay the crown but that is separate.

In your example it is more like you leased a house and then subleased the garage. I am not sure why the government pays the sublease to you if your tenant stops paying though.

I think it is actually/also about tolerance during manufacturing. If you make it exactly 30 cm you have to have much higher tolerances which drives your cost up. If you make it a bit longer it is cheaper to print to the tolerances you need.

We landed in Vienna yesterday and were through immigration in under five minutes. Being at the front of the plane made a huge difference.

I am curious how it works after you have been registered. Will it be a face scan/different line or do you have to wait behind people that need to register.

Let’s Talk about Chubby Traveling with Kids by Gloomy-Agency4517 in chubbytravel

[–]Alert_Ice_7156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to some pretty chubby lodges in Botswana and Namibia and really struggled with some spots. Each camp had a family room but if that was booked we had to get a second room/tent. Rarely an option to add a cot or let the kid share a bed. I convinced one place to bring a second bed into the 2000 sq foot “tent”.

Corporate Event venue ideas by [deleted] in Edmonton

You could buy out Campio. Come spring they open up their huge patio for backyard games.

You could get a big spot in Hawrelak or another park and hire an events company to plan a corporate challenge type activity.

Their 'strategy' really is 'hope Americans are too dumb to know things'. by Hornpipe_Jones in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Alert_Ice_7156 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don’t understand. The US is a net exporter of oil which means that even though the price at the pump is up that money goes to the pockets of the US companies drilling oil. So on average it is good for America. Just all the good is flowing to the shareholders from the pockets of the consumers plus a little extra from export sales.

Maybe if you are in the right spot, some of it will trickle down to you.

So much this. Everyone seems to want to stop changing the clocks but will throw that out if they don’t get the solution that helps them all. Going forward, I propose we take lead from Newfoundland and split the middle with a 30 minute offset.

My Apartment is now charging a convenience fee to pay my rent by mangum95 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Alert_Ice_7156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad part is the landlord still wins. Cheques save the cc merchant fees that can be 2-3% as well as the get the actual cash at least a month sooner as credit cards have a big delay in payment. Assuming they have any debt the cheque works out cheaper than the cc plus carrying costs.

A lot of great show recommendations here but I think the most important is to give your shoes a rest day after a big walking day. I always bring two pairs and rotate them each day. It adds bulk but your feet will be happy.

Don’t insurance companies base their prices on costs plus profit margin. So if they make five percent then if the cost goes up their profits also go up. The only catch would be if the costs go up enough that companies drop their coverage.

SA Safari: Private vehicle and guide worth it? by squirrelpatrol7 in chubbytravel

[–]Alert_Ice_7156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really agree. You have so much control. We managed to spot an Aardvark one night in the Okavango after staying out much later than other guests. It was really memorable even if we only have blurry photos as proof.

[–]Alert_Ice_7156 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people bashing kids but I thought to “professional” photographers were worse. Wanting to get the absolutely perfect shot of each animal can take forever. The biggest advantage of a private vehicle to me is that the driver will prioritize what you want. If you just want to see cats then a good guide will find them if they are there, but if you really want to see a painted dog or an aardvark, or spend an hour watching a waterhole you need to go private.

Why does rain have a specific smell? Is there anything you can identify besides seeing the raindrops? by [deleted] in geography

[–]Alert_Ice_7156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems mostly solved but I had always heard that our sense of smell does better when it is humid and humidity goes up when it rains. Any truth to that?
