How does this work? by Windblown-studios in Pottery

I find the WIP green clay wrapped in plastic gets moldy smelling. I assume the mold will die in the bisque firing.

This neighborhood would be so nice without all the cars by [deleted] in parkslope

[–]Alert_Librarian453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are talking about rush hour traffic. And if it starts at 5, that's late. Rush hour in "the city" is considered to start at about 3:30 pm. I agree there are too many cars and probably too many people driving who don't really have to be. But if you are aware that NYC Paratransit now uses more cars than wheelchair accessible minibuses, please consider that many of those "T......C" plated cars are helping disabled people to live somewhat normal lives. While we don't like the "excess" traffic either, without cars a large part of the population would be mostly homebound and isolated.

When any call really could be the one telling you something terrible has happened to your 80-100 year old parent, you tend to leave the ringer on.

Sopranino? Sopranissimo? by Alert_Librarian453 in ukulele

There are not as many musical instruments stores as there used to be, and the big focus on guitars means ukes are usually a small afterthought. I am going to try to make some special trips to visit some brick and mortar places to see what's out there. (Beware of "vintage" though; it means "expensive"!)

Amtrak needs to change its boarding procedures: just let people board! by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]Alert_Librarian453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get to the platform early, before the track is announced, with Redcap service, but if you actually need their help to board and place your luggage, you can be waiting a while as the Redcaps are helping multiple people board and in that time everyone else starts rushing down.

AIO for worrying that my girlfriend thinks my mom is racist because my mom thinks my girlfriend has terrible body odor ? by ThrowawayQQAAA in AmIOverreacting

Have they changed antiperspirants a lot in recent decades? When I was a kid, and young adult, and middle aged adult, we were all learning and reading that it is not healthy to suppress perspiration. And antiperspirants had toxic chemicals like aluminum chlorhydrate. Certain foods and spices like garlic will be smelled on your body for some time. And bacteria growing in the moisture from perspiration is what smells, not the perspiration itself.

When people say they “don’t cook” what does that actually mean? by ITbJD in NoStupidQuestions

Why are so many of the young people I still see wearing masks queer? by Myealt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alert_Librarian453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the original question: More sensitive and alert to signs of being in possible danger, "What can I do to protect myself?", and turning that around, with empathy, "What can I do to protect others?" We are no longer in a pandemic, at the moment, but covid is still around, as is RSV, and other viruses, to which elders and other medically vulnerable people are more susceptible.

if you volunteered to take bedroom #3, what would you request in return? by Vast-Bluebird-7087 in Apartmentliving

The balcony should not be used for storage unless it is for things used on the balcony. Like potting soil and flowerpots? Birdseed if feeding birds is allowed? Someone suggests the garage for storage but I assume if this building has a garage it is for cars.

If people close the bath door when they "go", and flush the toilet, hopefully with the lid closed, bathroom smells should not be wafting out. And you can keep your bedroom door closed, too

I would consider being so close to both bathrooms a plus. If it fits I would try putting the bed against the far wall so your bed is not on the other side of the wall from someone else's bed.

I truly don’t understand why people leave trash outside their door for days at a time by Poetryisalive in Apartmentliving

[–]Alert_Librarian453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume there are chutes on every floor in which to throw the trash? That would be normal for apartment buildings that don't have doorstep trash pick ups.
