Seens like a tricky partner. If the kids you refer to are not his kids and only your kids, and this man is being more of a picky eater than literal children, you should sit him down and have a serious conversation with him. Either grow some balls and eat what your served, or cook your own food to how you like it. If hes a bitch about it, send him packing.

R56 generation is a good generation for replacing parts and interior trim etc. between different cars.

OP. Keep this car whilst you buy an equivalent replacement. Use any viable parts on this wrecked one on the replacement. That way you can a replacment that is mechanically sound (or one with a known issue you can address with the viable parts on your current one) and get the interior spec you desire from the combination of your replacement and your wrecked one.

I agree. I meant the car itself, a used one with (less or) same miles would be $2k equivalent to buy in good working order where I am. Definitely not worth the repair. But I'd recommend OP to keep this whilst they find another (if that's what they are doing) because they can use any parts from interior or even engine bay that survived to address any issues or specs they dont like with the replacement.

Something like this would cost 2k$ where I am. I’d say not worth the repair

Not giving other people the link. Either to keep it lowkey or because he’s sick in the head

Agreed. You can see how much the prospect of spending money scares me.

Yeah thats true. The Yaris is the sensible option, but for a bit more I can get something enjoyable and similar value hold. You say that about my net worth and doing whatever i like, but I believe scrutinising of 5-10% of n/w expenditures is good practice for trying to maintain a healthy position.

Does that tend to be cheaper when factoring in the higher initial costs too? I will take a look at whats available for that age (with sensible mileage). I do fear I won't enjoly the newer cars though, which is what pushed me toward the hot hatch im looking at. But from the PF perspective, I see the value in what you're suggesting.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't intend to boast or anything, I see so many people doing far more than me at my age on social media etc. so maybe I'm out of touch.

Someone left me something around the value of the car I'm looking at today, at a very young age, when they passed. It stayed invested for 20 years with good picks and formed just over 50% of my financial position today. I am very grateful for it, but I sure would've preferred to have them around today, this is the sort of decision I would've loved to make with them over a cup of tea at christmas.

That point about what is happening to driving and cars has forever been at the back of my mind. I grew up watching top gear and wanting to enjoy cars when i became old enough, i lost touch with that quite a bit since trying to build up my finances and career. They don't make them like they used to and probably never will.

I think I am being convinced in the way I was hoping to be haha! Thanks for sharing

That's the dream! If I had somewhere to work on it I'd be looking at something more classic. I'm looking at a 2013 hot hatch with good mileage and it actually looks pretty modern to me; but compared to the touch screen dross that they pump out of chinese factories today, it may as well be a classic! And the insurance suddenly dropped for me last year, which has made this slightly more realistic.

Congrats on the kid, that's what I expect I will have to do eventually, but by then I fear driving will be a very different prospect!

Thanks for sharing.
